What's the point of a transfer window? 10:40 - Aug 31 with 2808 viewsWatford_Ranger

Who was it intended to help or protect? Big clubs, small clubs? Apart from agents it seems to be of no benefit to anyone.

Probably not even legal when you think about it.

I'm sure it's not. Surprised it's never been challenged formally. Still don't get who is meant to be better off only having a small window to buy and sell players.

I really don't see who benefits from it. Totally bizarre!

Television (SKY) benefit from it, got to add some American razamataz to football transfers, if not then you may have some beer swilling gastropod actually changing the channel. No-one benefits other than Murdock and his cronies. - Oh and purple dildo manufacturers.

I am surprised Dyke hasn't abolished transfers altogether and replaced them with a scheme whereby the top clubs can simply take the players they want from other clubs at any time they want without paying for them. It would be for the good of the game of course.

Which reminds me, David Conn really stuck the boot into the Cockney conman a couple of weeks ago...

I thought the transfer window was brought in to avoid the situations where players were unsettled throughout the season by transfer speculation and actual transfers

if you go back to the 70's it was a right pain worrying every week if our players were going to be poached by one club or another, Bowles was leaving for one club or another almost every other week, Francis and Thomas and Parkes had similar speculation,.

I think the idea of a transfer window was a good one, it just been spoilt by all the SKY crap and the crazy money

Clubs and supporters seem to be more focused and get more excitement from transfer speculation and the window than the actual business of playing football and achieving results

It was introduced to stop clubs nicking their rivals' best players mid-season, not to stregthen their own team, but to weaken their opponents. Bill Shankley used to do it a lot.

That sounds reasonable until you think that the club doesn't have to sell.

Liverpool used to be massively wealthy compared to other clubs in the 1970s. They could make offers that couldn't be refused, or entice the player to put in a transfer request. I remember they signed David Johnson from Ipswich (who were a top-three club for several years in that period) and then hardly played him. Granted, that one wasn't mid-season, though.

point of the transfer window was to regulate transfers and stop players being unsettled when the football started so that the season was all about the football rather than transfers, sadly they kept it open during the season and it's only open for 4 weeks at the start of the season and again in January it causes mass panic.

Reason clubs do everything last minute is for tv, Sky pay millions for the rights to the prem and this is part of it, all the clicks on the website makes them money, all the watching of ssn tomorrow makes them money and the hype of it al benefits the clubs and the league as they get all their sponsors on show on tv and on the internet which drives up the price of sponsorship deals, not only do you sponsor shirts for 38 games a season you also get it on screen every day on a news channel

Thankfully i'm out of the country and will be at Universal Studios tomorrow so can ignore it and just see how it ends up.

Does the window still end at 11pm or is it earlier now?
