Superb. A few years back there was a thread about disused railway stations in the area, love all that stuff.

Surprising how much Victorian architecture has survived. In many aspects London is still a Victorian city.

Cool pics

Odd how much of the articulate stone masonry work on some of those buildings as been removed or altered. Check out the ridges above Subway in that first picture and the changes made to the balcony on the library. I wonder why that was?

The South London Borough I worked for pieced together a decent archive of old photos going back to the turn of the century right through to present day. Some fascinating stuff available on our website.

I love this kind of thing, I take comfort in the knowledge that people in 100 to 200 years time will have so much insight into what we were like and how we did things, since the invention of the digital camera, camera phones and social media. There will be an infinite amount of footage they can study.

Yes, despite the efforts of cultural terrorists like Boris Johnson to destroy our heritage (ref Spitalfields, London Fruit & Wool exchange) etc.

Me neither. Some years ago, on another board, I was a regular poster in a long running thread concerning west London photo history. We dug up tons of stuff but I never saw any of these, excellent stuff.

I didn't say that building specifically was Victorian. Part of Dorset St that also went dated back to the 17th century. All cultural vandalism in my view.

Turns out to be not a huge amount to see beyond the existing main gate! no stands remaining, just a fence where they used to be!
