England Women into final at Lord's! 18:08 - Jul 18 with 3618 viewseasthertsr

Just watched the England's Women team squeak through in the last over of the World Cup against South Africa. Brilliant for the team to make the sell-out Final at Lord's on Sunday. They showed a hell of a lot more bottle than the men did on Monday! Really great for women's sport that they made the final. Would love it to be the Aussies they face, and beat, in the Final!

I watched the whole game yesterday and it swung both ways at various times throughout the day.I thought we'd win easily but the runs dried up in the last few overs, which along with the falling wickets made for an exciting finish.
I agree about the men's team though. There are too many batsmen in the team who seem to think a test innings is like a 1 day game.Bish bash bosh, a quick 50 and its job done. Most of them don't seem to play controlled cricket shots,or even know that you have to stay there and build an innings.
I don't fancy our chances much for the Ashes in the winter unless a few of them change their approach a bit.
Good luck to the women on Sunday though.

Never fear, it won't be long before we have the first 'swings both ways' test match.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Have tickets for the final, so was watching this one with interest - great tense finish with the winning runs (4 runs absolutely belted through the covers by No 9 Anya Shrubsole) coming off the penultimate ball. Have been to a fair few of women's games over the last few years, which are always very enjoyable, with the standard getting better and better each year. The current team has some great players, notably Sarah Taylor, whose wicket-keeping is as good you'll see anywhere (including the men's game). Agree on the 'bottle factor' - they seem to find a way of winning games when their backs are to the wall, and they also seem to be great ambassadors for the game generally, going into schools, youth groups etc. Would be great to see them win the trophy again.

Ah sorry.

* Fully pro - England, Australia, Pakistan
* Functionally pro but technically semi pro - New Zealand (inclusion in national team doesn't guarantee central contract)
* Semi-pro - West Indies, Sth Africa, India

Brilliant game, unbelievably tense at the end.

Been a fun tournament to watch all the way through.

Anya Shrubsole stepped up when needed. 6-46 and a run-out in the final.

Wow what a game. Won at the death by Anya Shrubsole ( did I mention her before?), who bowled England to a World Cup win with a devastating display of fast bowling to finish with figures of six for 46 — the best World Cup bowling figures for England and the country’s second best in all one-day international cricket.

It was a final the competition deserved, with fans queuing round the block. The weather played ball as the rain, forecast for the early afternoon and expected to knock the match into a reserve day, was ignored even when it did arrive. Refreshing.

For a while India were coasting in their chase of 229. Harmanpreet Kaur, who single-handedly destroyed the defending champions, Australia, with 171 from 115 balls in the semi-final, and the opening batter Punam Raut took their side to 138 for two before Kaur was smartly caught at square-leg by Tammy Beaumont off the superb Alex Hartley. But Raut motored on, aided by Veda Krishnamurthy, getting India to within 28 of their target with 44 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand.

Enetr stage right. Anya Shrubsole. Switching ends (inspired choice whoever this was), with four overs to bowl and the early wicket of Smriti Mandhana in her back pocket, she dismissed Raut, lbw, for 86. In the next over Sushma Verma was bowled round her legs by Hartley before Shrubsole removed Krishnamurthy and Jhulan Goswami in her following over — a period of three for three from eight of her deliveries. Her next turn came in the field during the 48th over when Shikha Pandey found Shrubsole, who gathered like a tiger picking prey and threw to the quite perfect Sarah Taylor to remove the bails as the No9 desperately tried to regain her ground. With 12 balls remaining India’s ask of 11, with the all-rounder Deepti Sharma looking dangerous on 14 and a batter still to come, was far from impossible. But the tidal wave of we're going to fkg do this — was with Shrubsole.

The penultimate over began with her removing Sharma, caught at midwicket, for her fifth of the innings. Two balls later hands were over faces when Jenny Gunn, one of the best fielders, dropped the simplest of catches at mid-off from Poonam Yadav that would have completed England’s win. Would it matter? Not on Shrubsole’s watch. She charged like a demon possessed, think Ainsworth 25 yards out, next ball yorked Rajeshwari Gayakwad and charged off to celebrate. Her final, match-turning spell was five for 11.

Bottle. Guts. Emotion.

Now that is how you stand up in a world cup final to win the game for your country! Shrubsole take a bow! Magnificent!
