I don't see why necessarily. Obviously we're light at the back but it's bloody Middlesbrough, not Real Madrid. They'll play Assombalonga who can be great but is hit and miss with either Fletcher (average, soft) or Bamford (average, soft).

They can be got at at the back. Gibson is very good for this level but Fabio is still bloody Fabio and Randolph in goal is no Smithies IMO. Their midfield is decent but nothing to be scared of.

That's a massive blow (and not in a good way). No Chief means an almost definite bumming in the gob, which we would likely have got anyway. Bah.

Surely we HAVE to recall Furlong and play 4 at the back, I can't see how else we can keep playing the current system when he's one of only a few that is fit. We've got one fit CB FFS... Something like the below?

When did the U23's last play? If it was quite recently maybe they didn't travel? Otherwise Paul and Phillips on the bench wouldn't be a bad idea, I would worry about putting them in without Chief playing and helping them throughthings though, especially for a game like Boro away.

I think we'll see Furlong in at CB to the right of Baptiste, with Robinson the other side. Ollie will want to stick with this system IMO, and Furlong can easily shift over to RB in the same way Baptiste has been recently.
