Does feel very narrow and it seems little Smyth isn't involved again. Ultimately I would love to see a team with little Smyth on one side and BOS on the other but I don't think thats quite ready to happen. Either that, or Steve Mac sees that as plan B |  |

Very calm. Just asking a qn and posting by a concern. That’s why I asked for a report and am keen to know how it plays.
If you’ve read anything i’ve posted on the topic you'll know i’m in favour of the McClaren move and hugely supportive of the club, its approach, and its direction.
I just have an issue with us setting up narrow when both Smith and Sylla thrive off crosses, and we have wingers in the squad. [Post edited 21 Jul 2018 16:08]

1-0 Hoff h/t. Disappointing start but grew into the game nicely. Eze showing some sublime touches, working well with Kakay on the right. Freeman disappointing for me on the left. Very open at the back and down the middle, Hoff should have had 3 at least but we had one or two good chances. Cousins working hard in midfield. Good test as Hoffenheim press and close down very quickly indeed but also have pace up front.
I think McLaren will be pretty happy apart from the first 10 mins when we looked all over the place. |  | | |

Freeman and Eze are two of our better crosses so these free roles give them the chance to adopt those positions.

Hoffenheim changed the complete 11 on about 75 mins we made 3 changes I think. Eze was the best player on the pitch and must've been fouled a dozen times. [Post edited 21 Jul 2018 23:06]

Hoffenheim 3rd in BL last season.
They lost their top scorer again but keep unearthing gems.
1. Ingram distribution needs to be better but I didnt feel nervous with him in goal
2. Bidwell looks well up for it this season
3. Kakay very nervous start but grew into the game and really impressed
4.Jordan Cousins best I've ever seen him play
5. BFG Solid I think his distribution is rusty ...I hope. Strong powerful
6. Lynch as above but with the rust
7. Scowen ratted about
8 Luongo. a few goods runs but quiet
9 Freeman menace down the left for much of the game combines well with Bids
10 Eze....sublime but got kicked to pieces. They coudnlt cope with him when he was on the ball so reverted to hacking him down
11 Smith did OK
Wash for Smith......same old
BOS he sparked out comeback
Manning this boy is going to be one hell of a player
Poor start but we grew into the game. They bossed it really but we looked good in parts.
at 2-0 it looked like we had nothing left. On the hour they made 10 subs and we got back into the game.
Horrendous weather conditions but I thought we looked like a unit.
