Talk to me about your fairytale ending - Report on 23:05 - Feb 10 with 1471 viewsbosh67

After 36 odd hours of going aaaaaaagggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I've sort of calmed down. One thing that still bothers me though. Surely one of the Birmingham lads should have taken the penalty. After all they appeared to arrive at the ball before Nakhi.

Never knowingly right.

Brilliant, Clive. Just brilliant. Hell we deserved something out of that game. But we did at least salvage a bit of pride and lovely to see the rafters rocking like the old days.

And the ref. What a piece of phlegm wrapped in a bag of poo. I've genuinely seen better refs in my son's u-15 super division. But I'm sure he cycled home to the wife, flares flapping in the breeze and told her how he nailed the placing of those free kicks. That showed them...

Thanks Clive, great write up as ever.

I was listening to the game on QPR+ and didn't pick up on the fact that SMC had gone three at the back in the second half to nullify their diamond.

Also interesting to hear that Cousins put a good Geoff Cameron-style shift in.

A confusing/elating/crushing/exiting/gutting game.

despite being there it was still worth a read and very well done Clive.

Also don't think having Bright & Freeman on their 'opposite' wings did much for us in the first half. Neither really got any delivery in or produced the efforts that the cut in allows. So felt a little sorry for Bright getting pulled at half time.

With Matt Smith up top surely keeping the wingers on their correct side to go outside and cross in would be wiser?

Oh well; I've missed both cup matches due to other commitments and the TV switch to Friday means i'll miss that too; you can all thank me and pay me to stay away for the 6th round after we beat Watford!

right, let me get this off my chest once and for all, because this really fcks me off.

Clive Whittingham should be winning fkicng Peabodies for this stuff, and who knows about it? We few, we happy few.

Christ mate, you are on fire at the moment like never before.

When the ref made Lumley re-take that free kick i could here you in my head with the 'there. Not there. There. Back a bit etc' routine.

Another standing ovation.

Bare bones.

I have absolutely no idea how you made that such an enjoyable read considering I still feel sick about it. I finished at almost happy by the game. Great piece which somehow cheered me up about it

Thanks Clive, for another outstanding report.

That second half was one of the most exciting half’s of football I’ve ever witnessed. Birmingham weren’t timewasting, a bad pantomime referee and the outstanding Matt Smith.

I said to the fella next to me after the penalty miss, ‘I know this will sound stupid, but if we lose 4-3 without the penalty miss, I’d be leaving the ground happy, even though we’d lost.
But having now had the penalty, it feels like a proper defeat.’
He said, ‘I know exactly what you mean.’

The applause at the end summed it up for me. Gutted, but proud.

Yeah, have to wholeheartedly agree with this.
That was just such a brilliant read from start to finish. Pure entertainment in the written form.
If I had a hat I'd take it off.
Take a bow Clive, cos that was brilliant.
Thank You.

Brilliant report on a fantastic game, Clive. Nice to see the broadcasters realise how good a game it was with Both Sky & Quest featuring it as the main match on their highlights packages.

Often see these late penalties blasted down the middle of the goal with the keeper diving out the way, but you still need some nerve to do it.

Maybe if Smith was awarded some of the he many penalties he deserves, we would have a bit more experience at taking them.
