Still do not understand what this has to do with JRM' s tweet. It's hardly an example of why we need Europe to win [Post edited 15 Jul 2019 14:43]

Sorry to have offended you was not intentional. Just could not understand how a reference to a tweet from Ireland was relevant to the thread

Except the fact that our captain is from the EU? I think that IS the point...

Google the CommonTravel Area, the relationship between us and Ireland predates the EU by many years. Morgan being captain of England is in no way relevant to the EU

Some pockets of dogged resistance to the general West Brittery. Ed Joyce in the corner muttering into his beer, “That should have been me, parading the trophy with Jon Lewis and Jamie Dalrymple” (and Liam Plunkett!)

JRM Cricket Tweet! on 22:40 - Jul 15 with 3517 views | CiderwithRsie | I've just noticed that JRM's original quote was "a d..n near-run thing." A quote about the battle of Waterloo, by the Duke of Wellington. That's Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, Marquis of Douro etc etc. Born Merrion St, Dublin. And that's the battle of Waterloo, where Wellington commanded an army of British (including Irish) Dutch, Belgians and Germans, aided by another army of Germans.

Trump reckons the Duke made full use of the airports at Waterloo, and the train station the battle was named after.

But as I pointed out earlier it had no relevance to JRM's tweet. Using Morgan as an example of a citizen of a country in the EU helping England is no different to using for example Joe Root. The qualification to play for England for both has nothing to do with the EU

Sorry mate. But the make up of the English cricket team is a reflection that the UK is part of a multi-national, multi-cultural world. That includes people from the EU, the Commonwealth and many other countries. The UK, by voting to leave the EU, is, effectively, turning its back on that. Morgan - born in Dublin Stokes - New Zealand Roy - South Africa Tom Curran - South Africa Archer - Barbados Bairstow and Adel Rashid - Bradford Woakes and Moeen Ali - Birmingham
