That gay footballer 18:56 - Jul 23 with 10729 viewsbluey_the_blue

Out tomorrow, revealed the date days ago.

To the surprise of precisely no-one, now not coming out - "not strong enough".

Looking more and more like a hoax.

Could well be either.

I’ve no idea how anyone can class it as a ‘clear hoax’ as if the former wasn’t a very plausible scenario.

If the former is true, then the guys a bit of a bell*nd regardless of sexual orientation.

All over social media, lapping it all up, loving all the celebrities coming out in support, hopefully leading the way for others to be more comfortable with their situation, then going missing. Jango a few posts up said it best.

But, I'm 99% sure it was a hoax, thought it was all along.

Yeah maybe, or just a kid who realised he was about to change his life forever and go from being relatively unknown to one of the highest profile footballers in this country if not the world, and shit himself.

"Oh I';m not strong enough to do it".

Strong enough however to "announce" it ahead of time.
Strong enough however to try to drop hints by liking certain team and player tweets to get people talking.
Strong enough however to post claims of a meeting with manager and chairman, neither of which can be independently verified.
Strong enough however to commit to a specific date only to magically back out the day before.

It is and always was a hoax, relying on people not questioning something claimed on social media. It's simply not plausible that if genuine, would not have consulted agent first for advice on handling PR element. No credible agent would say "Yeah, mate, you're worried about any reaction so why don't you just draw it out, tease and prolong it, eh?". The story would be fed to a friendly media source.

I'm sure he was going to do it and had last minute cold feet when he thought about the nasty comments Tory Bluebirds were going to write about him on a Swansea forum...

Taking a bit too much interest in this Bluey, perhaps there's something you want to tell us?

Arf! Happily married to a woman sadly.

Nothing wrong with being gay whatsoever even if some believe it's a "choice". It's more that this case is about a billy bullsh1tter.

Bluey - you’ve surpassed yourself there, even by your own increasingly offensive standards.

It’s no more a choice for a gay person than it is for you.

Who knows whether it is or isn’t a hoax, one thing’s for certain - it’s not surprising any gay footballers are worried about being open given some of the unbelievably hate filled comments that have been made over the past few weeks.

Errm, Lisa, you do realise why I wrote that about "choice", right? I'm well aware it's not a choice unlike some pretending to be LGBTQ friendly.

It's a hoax. If you'd followed that account on social media, you'd have seen 99.9% of comments were incredibly supportive, the number of abusive comments were minimal and quickly shouted down. The tweets made by it weren't particularly plausible from a PR perspective - which a championship side and agent would advise upon. Teaser likes made to get people speculating about the identity.

Most gay footballers know their sexuality is completely irrelevant. Why should anybody from the LGBTQ community feel forced to identify publicly - that's bordering on Tatchell's abusive tactic of outing people.

There's also a massive thing we dismiss...and should not be dismssed at all...in fact it's becoming a disgrace in our society: The right to privacy...the right that your business is your business...and even if you engage on a very low level on social media..(just close friends and family) you have an absolute right to be ring fenced from any sort of abuse. Facebook will be history because of this...

Nope. You said:

“Nothing wrong with being gay whatsoever even if some believe it's a "choice".”

I didn’t follow that twitter account. I have better things to do than looking at social media trying to poke holes in it.

People aren’t forced to identify publicly - its their choice to do so. There are a number of quite high profile players, including England players who are gay, well known to be gay, the media know they are gay and nobody ‘outs’ them.

But it’s naive in the extreme to call it irrelevant, when that is patently not true. You’ve commented on this since it started. So you don’t think it’s irrelevant. The problem with the argument that says ‘why do they need to comment - no one else does’ completely ignores the rather obvious point that every time a high profile player is seen with his girlfriend, he’s announcing his sexuality. Everytime he’s seen with his wife and kids he’s announcing his sexuality. No gay player can be seen in public with his boyfriend or husband. Some, in fact, are seem with women instead - in much the same way as Rock Hudson was always with a pretty young actress back in the day.

It’ll be a happy day when no one cares. It’ll be a happy day when people don’t think calling people a ‘bender’ is anything other than loathsome. Unfortunately that day hasn’t arrived.

Lisa, "even if some believe it's a 'choice'". Think of a high profile politician who made that claim. That's not my opinion whatsoever.

I think it's relevant to point out hoaxers on topics like this. Does someones sexuality bother me? No. If we could get a 20 goal a season striker, I'd not care what they got up to... obviously as long as legal.

Why are high profile player doing that? PR reasons mostly, advertising et al. You can rightly argue that's media led. End of the day, which you correctly say that no gay player has been seen in public in those circumstances, there's nothing stopping them doing so. I don't for one second believe media, sponsors etc would kick back on that - indeed would in a very tokenistic facile way love someone to do so.

It will be a happy day when no-one cares. That's idealistic though - you'll never 100% eliminate homophobia in the say way antisemitism, racism et al will never be completely eliminated. I'd say right now it's minimised a hell of a lot to the extent that a male player coming out would be accepted with few problems - problems that need to be dealt with sure.

Seems the kid pretending to be a gay footballer messed up - tweeted something to Gareth Thomas from his main account rather than the gay footballer account they created.

Sad people create hoaxes like that. Bit ironic really given Gareth Thomas story is full of bs.
