West Ham paid QPR £500,000 for Phil. Better than we do these days!

I was sat behind Phil as a kid at the Premier of Star Wars in Leicester Square. I was half elated that one of my heroes was in front of me and half p*ssed off because I could see the film.

Never knowingly right.

A world record fee for a goalkeeper at the time and was not far short of the British transfer record which had just been broken early in January 1979 by West Brom paying £516,000 to Middlesbrough for David Mills. Yes, David Mills.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?

The fee for Parkes was in fact £565,000 a world record for a keeper. He also played exactly the same number of games for us and Wham.

I did not know he did much the same as Stan with England, Stan walked out after being subbed at HT against Northern Ireland by Joe Mercer, He did play for them again unlike Parks.

I spoke to Mercer about Stan a few times, but would never really say why he did not play him just a stupid smirk on his face.

When willl this CV nightmare end
