First one back after the war. Some pertinent programme notes in a stiff-upper-lip 1940s register.

2-1 Yoo RRRsss!

What a brilliant write up. Club should reissue some of that or loft certain passages for the first programme back when football restarts. Loved it.

Also just reiterated why club ethos is key. 1946 or 2020; the odd bad season, let alone the odd bad game is what in such a grand scheme. The club, the fans, it’s bigger than that. It’s spans time that we, as individuals, don’t.

Support it and be a part of it. Don’t expect something back.

Thanks for posting this. Some very fine, almost poetic, prose going on there.
Plus a photo of my dad's favourite player, Cyril Hatton.

See Matthew Rose was still at right back then!

How did we get on versus Clapton Orient?

2-0 to the R's but, by the time the game took place, Clapton Orient had morphed into Leyton Orient.

The Club have no intention to pay vastly inflated fees for players of doubtful ability

In the light of recent seasons it almost hurts to read that. This is the first one from 1947/48. Must’ve been a great season. First time we were champions in the football league and our first ever promotion. Rs 3 Canaries 1. Grant Holt scored for Norwich.

Anyone know what that's about?

We have a large stock of bicycle pennants, complete with fittings, for sale at 2s. 6d. each.

First ever home game in the 2nd tier, or Division 2, as it was pleasingly called. Programme tarted up to a bumper 8 pages.

4-1 to the Rs. Yesss!!!
Attendance: 23,827
but come on boys please keep off the pitch.

Good to see we had a healthy quota of Smith's in that side.
