Hats off to Northern Ireland on making the Euro play off final where they sadly won't be playing my native Republic of Ireland.
Great achievement for a country with limited resources and team made up of EFL players and the odd premier leauge player.
Our time will come . Some great young players coming through all playing Premier league football.
For the first time in years we are playing something resembling football which can only be good.

The ongoing Northern Ireland achievement is bloody remarkable. I wouldn't back that team to do any good in our league on paper.

I'm reading the John Delaney book. Don Givens doesn't come out of it well, though to be fair he's not in the top 80% of villains, slimeballs and sycophants. What's incredible is that John O'Donoghue comes out of it as a rare voice of reason. Takes one to know one, I suppose.

Cheers Paddy. I didn't see either match tbh, will watch the highlights later.

Looks like The Republic were very unlucky - bizarre circumstances to have these games in obviously.

Slovakia in Belfast will have a totally different feel to it than you'd normally expect on paper, though I see there's some faint hope being held out that a few hundred very loud supporters might be let in.

How Eire didn’t win that game god only knows , if they had a Danny Ings or even a Calum Wilson they would have easily have won that , Slovakia were awful and just played for pens

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Sadly no one to stick the ball in the net since Robbie retired and losing the 2 strikers to covid before KO was a big blow. Poor choice of penalty takers I thought though.

24 teams in the Euro finals these days. It’s actually easier to qualify than not qualify.

John Delaney, the voice of reason?
F**k me Brian you might have a debate on your hands with that statement!
From what I've been reading his reputation is in tatters however I haven't read the book so probably unwise for me to comment

Actually very true. We qualified for the damn thing when there weren't half that many teams in it

I think he's got the Covid atm (get well soon and all that) so will certainly have cheered him up.

I meant, if John O'Donoghue (and Bertie Ahern) saw through Delaney, what were the rest doing?

Would be great if they could some fans in. That wouldn't be so great if The republic we're to have played them.
I remember the last competive game there back in 1994. Republic drew 1.1 to book a place in the USA World Cup.
Absolute carnage that night . Hatred on an unbelievable scale pouring from the Windsor Park terraces orchesteded sadly by Billy Bingham the Northern Ireland manager .
Step forward the classiest man in the stadium, Alan Mcdonald who came in to the ROI dressing room to congratulate the players.
Apparently he played the odd game for QPR.!!

Conor Washingtons penalty was superb, when they brought him on to take one I was a bit worried for them but fair play to him

I posted on the other thread daveB they brought on 2 specialists including CW just before the final whistle and both buired their chances despite the savage pressure fair play to them.
ROI did not appear to have the same strategy and having Doherty taking the final one (strained hamstring and dead on his feet ) proved fatal.
I was stunned Panic did not get a card after he kicked the ball at the NI keeper and hit him when he just scored his penalty.Incredible bad sportsmanship IMO and I was thrilled when NI advanced
