Brian Eno 22:04 - Jun 2 with 2055 viewsqprxtc

Reckons sport is a way of controlling the minds of people away from the important shit in life that we are deluding ourselves from. Apart from the olympics which he watches.

Oblique bleeding strategies. That’s been Rangers formation for about eight years.

He could be right though. He could also be wrong.

There’s too many questions that have no answers. And no point in trying to figure them out while you’re trying to enjoy your eightyish years.

I bet we get two games away from getting promoted and the f ucking Rapture will happen. God is a git like that.

He's probably right in a way - bread and circuses and all that.

Anyway, I love Brian Eno. Genius is a very overused word, but he is a genius.

Saw Eno and Danny Hillis present a talk about the Long Now Foundation and 10,000 year clock. Brilliant.

Ive not seen this but is sport the only thing that is supposedly distracting us? Are there not a million and one things distracting us and what is the important shit we're being distracted from?

Agreed, there are many other things. Such as Channel 5, Channel 4, ITV and all the other channels that keep pouring out ... Strictly Baking Cum Dancing Celeb Master ... or Big Reality Fiction On Ice ... garbage.

Get rid of this garbage first and then we can talk about how to avoid pandemics in the future which is really important shite that we need to get resolved and now.

At least Football has some competition to go with it and is most of the time not faked or gamed ... most of the time.

Anyway, have you ever seen The Wire?
:PPPPP

"Genius is a very overused word" is also a very overused sentence! (not having a pop at you for using it)

In every dream home a heartache.........

One of the great songs from the great Roxy Music.

Also a huge Eno fan but don't entirely agree with him - its the little thing, like sport (and music) that keep us from going mad if we concentrated purely on the big stuff, which is mainly not great.

What's not to smile at when the Rs score?

Michael Parkinson says that sport “is not war, or death, or famine – it’s not that at all. It’s the opposite of that. It’s to persuade us of a life outside of that… that’s why sport’s important.”

And I agree with him.

But it's a huge leap from that to "sport is a way of controlling minds". I mean who is it that's trying to control our minds? Paul Merson?

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Poll: Player of the Year (so far)

It's all a matter of taste, isn't it? However, I think it's true to say that without Brian Eno there would be no Aphex Twin.

It is subjective as you say but to follow that with a statement as if it is a fact is a bit strange. I don't even recall Eno as being one of Aphexes inspirations although it's possible. He certainly is unique and undoubtedly would have ploughed his own furlough with or without Eno. In my opinion.

Sorry, it wasn't meant as put down of Aphex Twin. I meant that Brian Eno is regarded as the main originator of ambient music. I think he invented the term itself.
