Car hire. 21:23 - Jul 1 with 1487 viewsMick_S

We are looking to go to Northern Ireland next month. The flights seem a little bit pricey compared to what we normally pay, but not silly money. The thing is, we need a motor from the airport to the sticks where we will be staying. Pre - Covid, we would pay around £150 for a weeks’ car hire. They are now asking between £ 6-700 for a 7 day hire which is going to stop us going, because we are not prepared to pay that . Anyone give us a lift, please? Only kidding - can you help me out trying to understand this? It just can’t work unless people are out there on business and the company are picking up the bill.

Shame, because we won’t go.

We were over there for my brother in-law’s wedding a couple of years ago. The wedding car broke down and this is how they arrived at the hotel as a passing farmer gave them a lift.

NI is packed with visitors from the south as you can eat out etc so car hire and hotels are flat out. Some of the Holyhead Dublin Ferries have diverted to Belfast so we are driving and doing it that way

I had a quick look for next week and saw a few options in the 250-270 sort of range - don't know if they're sticking the arm in mainly for advance bookings?

Maybe they have to sanitise the car and leave it dormant for set period ?

Hire a car in England or take your own and go on the ferry?

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Thanks mate, but I’d rather pull my own teeth.

In that case, follow my example and forget all about going away until covid has properly died down. Far too much bother otherwise and I can find plenty of bother for free staying at home without spending money looking for it.
