I thought the timing of this was going to lead to a bashing of Italian food. Happily mistaken.
Not that there isn’t overrated Italian food.
I’d love an Italian to come on here and tell his folks they don’t know what they are missing - those Brits have really nailed tinned food. Where did we go wrong?
Pie and mash from a Pie and mash shop. 6/10 slop for sentimental blokes who live in Zone 6 or the Home Counties, and own a book about the Krays. Better than school dinners, but not by much. And I love a good pie.

I totally agree Konk… Ive had it once in a pie and mash shop near Upton Park… Very, very uninspiring old school grub.

Was coming on to say this. Grim slop made worse by liquor.
The recent explosion in street food markets gets my goat - pre-Covid there was one in Leicester that was monthly on a Friday and its now moved semi-permanently to the refurbished Leicester Central (former) station.
The reason it gets my goat is its following this trend of street food vendors thats popular in the backpacking trails etc, except because its in the UK it all costs about a million pounds and is full of loads of extra stuff that you just don't need in your food.
This might really be my food tastes, but I like burgers. I like bacon cheese burgers. Can you get bacon cheese burgers at these places? No, you might get burgers but its also full of zillions of salsas, or sauces, spicy stuff, gherkins, whatever other rancid nonsense that just completely over complicates the whole thing and takes away all the nice meaty taste.
So yeah these street food things are a bit wasted on me and I avoid them as a result... but other people seem to go mad for them so I'm adding them to this overrated food list.
None of it's proper bread, the slices are always too thin to soak up the butter when you toast it, you definitely can't use it for toast and dripping (that's one for the underrated food thread) and letting in the air affects the freshness of a new slice
Nandos. And I get really irritated when I hear people say they're going for a "cheeky nandos".
It's just chicken in different types of spingy sauces ffs
I’ve been to Nandos about five times - always at someone else’s insistence - and always sat there confused about what I was missing. Oven chips, chicken that seemed to have spent a month pegged-out in front of a de-humidifier, and a glass of Fanta.
Canada’s national dish, poutine. Chips, cheese and gravy.
Isle of Man's unofficial dish too, except we're a matter-of-fact lot here and call it chips, cheese 'n gravy. Pubs full for the football on sunday, not a single drunk and disorderly arrest. Thanks to chips, cheese 'n gravy. It soaks up the alcohol, and more pertinently, you can't move after a few pints and a large portion of that. Just don't have a wafer-thin mint to finish
