My Youngest lad's birthday present for me years ago was tickets to see them at the Brixton Academy, they were the tightest band I have ever seen live, they were nothing short of superb and bang on the money. I watched a film about them Months ago I cant remember what it was called but it was about how they started out and all the trials and tribulations, and is well worth watching.
Gimme all your lovin'
RIP Dusty Hill.
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
First heard them on the roof of a plastics factory in Latimer Road where I had a summer holiday job. Worked with this Scottish lad who grew up in Texas and had just returned to the UK. Played me a tape of the band and asked me what I thought of them.

It was called ZZTop That Little Old Band From Texas on Netflix ted and it was brilliant . I remember back in Ireland in mid 80 they used have a show called MTV USA and ZZTop had 3 great songs ,Legs, Sharp Dressed Man ,Gimme All Your Loving I think all featuring that red car I loved it . RIP Dusty Hill
The great Dusty Hill, love ZZ Top, first saw them headlining Donnington in 1985, last saw them about 5 years ago, such a great power trio, with Dusty driving that trademark sound along.
They were fantastic at Wembley about 10 years ago when they played all the early stuff. Some of us were still in the pub when they went on though as they had no support band! Bastards we had to run from the 'Spoons
Fair play. RIP
Beer and Beef has made us what we are - The Prince Regent
Really saddened to hear this. They are in my top 3 bands of all time. When everyone was into punk, I played Fandango endlessly.
I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon on the El Loco Tour in 1981. That gig is in my top 5 list of all-time shows. They were incredible and the whole crowd were off their faces - just an amazing show!
Haven't really heard much of ZZ Top - though I have downloaded the new Billy F Gibbons solo album as it comes highly recommended in this month's Blues Matters - but there's no doubt that they were an iconic band even if it just was for the looks.

Is there a good starting point to get into them?
I am rather partial to Deguello, some great tracks on there
Not as heavy as I thought it was going to be and El Dialbo is incredibly leftfield. Reminds me of a couple of tracks on The Police's Zenyatta Mondatta.
I saw ZZ Top around 1981 at Wembley Arena. At the time, the viewing area for wheelchair users was in the VIP section and I ended up chatting to an elderly woman, who turned out to be Billy Gibbons mother, a lovely lady.
Very tight live band, and like others, I loved their videos.
