| Rob Dickie 12:56 - Aug 17 with 9405 views | kernowhoop | Wolves, Leeds and Newcastle are all said to be interested in him. Are we going to lose him? If so, how would the gap left by a strong and intelligent player be filled? Personally, I fear that, if he left, our chances of getting to the play-offs would be weakened considerably, but is there a more optimistic outcome? | | | | |

| Rob Dickie on 15:00 - Aug 17 by NewBee | If, as some suggest, QPR are looking to emulate the Brentford "Buy Low, Sell High" model, then you will also be assigning a valuation to your players, kept under constant review as the player progresses (or regresses). Meaning that if Dickie's current valuation is, say, £20m, and somebody meets that valuation, then he goes, end of. A good example from BFC was Ollie Watkins, Apparently Spurs came in with a £20m "take it or leave it" offer and BFC left it, since they were pricing him more highly than that. But when Villa came in offering £25m + £7m add-ons. he was off. Of course, securing the right price is only half the battle. For when you know that a key player is liable to go at any time, you should also have his replacement lined up - and Bees had already been monitoring Ivan Toney closely for well over a season. Indeed, ideally the replacement is already in the building eg when Bees sold Maupay, they switched Watkins from playing wide on the left to a like-for-like replacement No.9. None of us fans had anticipated that, but the coaches has clearly spotted it in advance. Which succession planning solves the dilemma between "Do we take the money now?" versus "Do we keep him to help us get promoted?" [Post edited 17 Aug 2021 15:01]

It’s not the Brentford model!!! it’s the QPR model of the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s… remember Andy Sinton?

New Bee only appears here to give us the benefit of his wisdom when Brentford are winning, which pretty much rules out that entire period I'm afraid.
| Rob Dickie on 17:53 - Aug 17 with 2920 views | R_from_afar | I am expecting our league position when the January transfer window arrives to be pivotal; if we are in contention for promotion, the board will look to strengthen the squad or keep it as is, but if we are not but look pretty safe, players will be sold. That is a pattern I think I have observed in the last few seasons. I am praying we will be challenging for promotion and therefore determined to keep our prize assets. | |

| Rob Dickie on 17:58 - Aug 17 with 2898 views | Hastings_Hoops | There’s no need to sell Dickie now (as far as we’ve been made aware) unless it’s a ridiculous offer… I would imagine that Austin (who stated as much) and Johansen joined on the basis of QPRs ambition this year. If we sell now, it’ll be for big bucks and we’ll have replacements ready (across the pitch) to kick on this season. If we don’t sell now and don’t get promoted, we’ll get even bigger bucks in June 2022. If we don’t sell now and get promoted, it’ll be a win-win for all concerned. | | | |

…. is the right answer. Now off you pop, NewBee. We get it, OK. Brentford are the most wonderful thing to have happened to football, no make that the entire nation, and we are not worthy. Thank you for allowing us to exist within a few miles of Kew Bridge. Will that do? OK, great, byyyeeee. …. [Post edited 17 Aug 2021 18:04]

| Rob Dickie on 14:07 - Aug 17 by Northernr | The decision, I think, will come next summer. You'd think/hope they'd be thinking/trying to extend his deal at some point this season, if he won't then you sell next summer because otherwise he's then going into that countdown to expiry that we got burned with on Manning and Bright, next two transfer windows after that clubs will know he's got 18 months, then 12 months left. |
Signed a 4 year deal last Sept, so time is still way on our side. And our owners have deep pockets, just can't spend any of it!

I only took a look at this thread because someone had suggested that if Bees didn't sign Ajer, maybe Dickie would be an alternative. Nothing more to it than that, really.

Sorry, but a few posters on here have cited the Brentford model for transfers. Which is hardly surprising, seeing as we're a similar club, near neighbours, and your manager is a former Brentford manager. Introducing a 'B' team is another manifestation of same. Tbh, you shouldn't get so touchy when it's pointed out. Rather, the real embarrassment would be if you refused to take from it, solely because it originated with that lot up the road. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You’re really not getting the point that Brentford didn’t originate ‘it’ are you. They adopted the QPR model when QPR were playing spoilt rich-kids for a decade or so. It has taken Brentford a surprisingly long to successfully implement the QPR model. I’m glad it has worked for them as I have no problem with Brentford and enjoyed a number of pre-season friendlies there in the early 90’s. Good luck.

They are one week into their 1st stint in the Premiership and we will soon be heading into our 61st or something. Let’s chill.

But we can take offence to the statement we are a very similar club - wtf - grassed Rowlands to FA in a childish pique, stadium announcer + self proclaimed club saviour is a wrong'un and would get caned at LR and they go paint-balling to liven up away days - Jim Gregory and Matthew Benham probably best contrast our two clubs.

‘…getting our Rangers back’ was a lovely thought that we can all enjoy. But, WTF is ‘…major contributors to the almost unstoppable descent into climate extinction and inescapable misery of the human species’ all about? If you have QPR’s major shareholders in mind, you might have written, instead, ‘…major contributors to greater well-being, who, somewhat surprisingly, find the time and the money to sustain the little football club that we love.’ I have also become less optimistic (old age, falling testosterone etc) and my friends noticed. A couple of years ago, one of them gave me, as a Christmas present the book by the late Hans Rosling ‘Factfulness: ten reasons we’re wrong about the world.’ Try it. It might cheer you up. On the other hand, if you prefer a gloomy view of the world, then, perhaps you shouldn’t.

Isn't that what every club outside the top half of the PL is trying to do, or are there clubs who deliberately go out and buy shitty players at inflated prices and sell them off as cut price bargains? (Don't answer that!)

There is no doubt that the Bees have done fantastically well in the transfer market, making millions, but not only that they have also delivered on the pitch - Premiership football, every clubs desire - despite loosing their, so called, better players. Well done to them but there is a 'hell of a lot' of luck when you venture into the transfer market with 'average type' players.......without that luck they would probably still be a Griffin Park playing average Championship football. As for Dickie, nice player with a great attitude!!!!!

I think it was a tongue-in-cheek, politicised (yet still very relevant) comment related to where much of the lovely dosh keeping our lovely club afloat is coming from: Gnanalingham - Container Shipping Services Tony Fernandes - Airline Mittals - Steel production All are significant contributors to global warming and climate change. None of it really related to our towering, free scoring Dickie ;)
