| Rob Dickie 12:56 - Aug 17 with 9388 views | kernowhoop | Wolves, Leeds and Newcastle are all said to be interested in him. Are we going to lose him? If so, how would the gap left by a strong and intelligent player be filled? Personally, I fear that, if he left, our chances of getting to the play-offs would be weakened considerably, but is there a more optimistic outcome? | | | | |

None of it really related to our towering, free scoring Dickie ;) |
"All are significant contributors to global warming and climate change. None of it really related to our towering, free scoring Dickie ;)" They (international trade, travel and steel) are certainly hugely significant contributors to our quality of life. I get your point, which is in line with mainstream thinking, but the impact of those things on 'climate change' is far more debatable. What is not debatable, however, is that Rob Dickie is, indeed, towering and free-scoring. May he continue in that vein at Middlesbrough!

Noteworthy that when asked if he wants to play in the PL, he didn't go for the normal cliché of, "yes, but I'd love to make it with QPR this year" etc etc. Instead spoke about how ambitious he is and how he wants to play at the very top, by the sounds of it ASAP. Sigh. At least we can expect good wonga for him.

There is no debate in science over the effect of travel by air and sea, and also steel production on the climate. All three contribute to global warming through CO2 emissions. They have contributed toward the quality of life for those of us who live in the 'first world'. For the rest - the 'two thirds world' - they receive little or no benefit from these activities yet are suffering far more from the effects of climate change than we ever will.

But trade is two-way. Steel is used everywhere. Travel provides jobs in tourism. How can it be only the 'first world' that benefits? As for 'there is no debate in science over the effect...' that surely cannot be right? I know that the BBC and the mainstream media allow no debate on such issues, but it does exist and we should be grateful that it does - even if we may not agree with some of the views.

As it's HT I'll just give a quick reply. Steel doesn't benefit the global poor much. Maybe a pot or a machete but never houses or cars. International trade is massively dominated and benefits by rich countries and has done for 100s of years. Search 'Trade Justice' to see. Income from tourism does bring some income but most of that goes to urban companies often owned by international companies. Not a lot will trickle down to the people especially in rural areas. There's no scientific debate over the facts of CO2 emissions causing climate change. The BBC allowed debate over this for a long time but no longer because denying those scientific facts is as wrong as denying there's a Covid virus. Climate Change is a scientifically proven fact.

We shall just have to disagree. On 'climate', the great weight of opinion is on your side, of course. It was a great match last night. No doubt we can agree on that!

They are one week into their 1st stint in the Premiership and we will soon be heading into our 61st or something. Let’s chill. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'm happy for them. Not so much about them coming onto our offish Twitter and FB just to crow about it every time we get a post from the club. It's a bit pathetic. I don't think I've ever posted on another club's social media.

Didn't hear it as that controversial or even that much less cliche really. He wants to get to the top, and at 25 so he should be. Seems obvious he's not going to kick up a big fuss to leave but if a bid comes in that suits us of course he'll back himself to succeed and jump at the chance. At the figures involved he's not going to be squad filler if someone wants to buy him now. The "unless his head's turned he won't want to go" stuff is a silly false binary. You can be respectful/loyal and ambitious at the same time.
