Saints v Pompey surely should have made the top 10. Im guessing the pundits forgot about it, due to one half of the game living in the lower reaches of the football pyramid.
Kind of weird that they include Chelsea/Fulham which hasn't been a derby of any note for over half a century and Palace/Brighton that's a manufactured rivalry from the late 70's but haven't included Saints/Skates, Burnley/Blackburn, Wolves/West Brom, Cardiff/Swansea or Millwall/West Ham.
It's a really strange selection to be honest.

People tend to include the Palace one in those lists now because they are both quite established premier league clubs, just lazy really.
Chelsea Fulham would hardly be anyone in the countries answer in the top 10 except Fulham fans.
Examples: 1) Garth Crooks creates a team of the week clearly without watching any of the games - he put in Laporte but not Salisu last weekend. 2) The number of articles on Man Utd and Liverpool massively exceeds articles on any other team.
The BBC simply can't be trusted to report facts any more and IMO they should be de-funded.

They really must’ve forgotten us, especially seeing how they’ve got the derby in there, famous for basically not being one (aka Palace VS Brighton) as well as all these tourist ones in there! Same goes for the likes of the spurs-Chelsea one, as I always remember Chelsea’s main ones were always Brentford, QPR and Fulham with Spurs’s being West Ham, Millwall and Arsenal. Makes 0% sense unless they did forget us/miss us out.
The definition of a derby in football terms is a game between two teams from the same city or area. How Crystal Palace from south London and Brighton can be termed a derby is anyones guess. Rivalry yes, derby no.

It just shows the bias that is inbred in the BBC, so it's not just politics, but sport as well. How on earth can any team have more than one rival to determine a derby ffs, let alone one between clubs 50 odd miles apart!
Ok not a Prem League derby, but one at the weekend which can be as fierce as ours was the true East Midlands one between Forest and Derby. Always feisty!

How Chelsea/Spurs, Liverpool/Man Utd are classed as derbies I'll never know. Palace/Brighton is about as new as the Palace ultras

My grandson, for example, is a walking encyclopaedia of everything Premier League but anything in football before that, he knows and cares little about. It's a bit like us and the Southern League, which was one of the two top leagues until the 1920s. There was probably a time in the 30s and 40s when older fans still cared deeply about Southern League records while younger fans didn't.
Most records quoted in the media nowadays, like the free-kick goal records involving Ward-Prowse, only refer to the Premier League.
Times have changed and in sport, large chunks of the past get forgotten about, especailly when old competitions disappear. Who cares about the Inter-cities Fairs Cup any more or who knows that there was once a time when Wanderers FC and Old Etonians had won more major trophies than any other teams in the country or that theirs was once the biggest derby in English football?
Some of the derby games being mentioned in this thread have never even taken place in the Premier League or, if they have, only a couple of times years ago. West Ham and Millwall, for example, have never played each other in the Premier League while even Brighton and Palace have played each other ten times in it and will continue to do so next season.
Of course, if the topic had been Top 10 derbies, then that would have been a different matter.

Im playing devil's advocate here but Brighton's stadium is nearer to Selhurst Park (45 miles) than it is to Fratton Park (50 miles) and Brighton and Pompey have only played each other once in the last 10 years and that was EFL cup during lockdown, whereas they play Palace regularly in the league. As for Millwall, they already have their rivalry with West Ham.
The last time they played each other in front of a crowd at Fratton was more than 10 years ago and Brighton fans had a great time. But, note the empty seats in the home sections:

I lived in Brighton for a couple of years, their fans will never forgive palace fans for rioting and trashing the seafront. There were other issues in the build up to this too, but yes could be seen as contrived.

It's a shame as I liked him as a player but now he's just embarrassing. It's not just the team of the week selections, which are almost childlike, but he seems to take himself very seriously and is also very boring! I can't understand how he stays in his role.
