…..in popular music. My favourite is Jonathon Richman:

“Some people walk down the street and get called an asshole,
this never happened to Pablo Picasso”

Songwriters are much better than poets at phonically similar rhymes Which I try to impress upon my students. An example I often use is in Ed Sheerin's 'I'm in love with the shape of you' when he rhymes 'backseat' with 'taxi". In general I find it easier to teach about poetic techniques through song rather than poetry

The one and only Steel Panther.

"The smell of Bengay was kind of making me sick
Till someone spit out some dentures and started gumming my dick
These golden girls had really been round the block
I got a rim job from one while she was knitting some socks"

Maybe not dodgy just interesting subject matter.

I've always thought that a couple of lines in David Bowie's 'Kooks' from 'Hunky Dory' could have been given a bit more thought:

"We bought a lot of things to keep you warm and dry
And a funny old crib on which the paint won't dry"

Using dry twice is a bit weak.

“Where do we go from here?
Is it down to the lake, I fear?”

Haircut100, probably better at music than English at school.

Given that it's followed by:

You're probably right

'Happen' and 'Clapham' was always stretching it a bit in The Squeezes Up The Junction.
Nevertheless a great track.

Primus have churned out so many of those but I particularly like this one, from De Anza Jig:

I remember the day that she gave me her viriginity
And then she gave it to everyone in our vicinity.

This Primus track is awash with them but they save the best to last (the video includes the lyrics):

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Was also a bit clunky.

The master of wordsmiths, Nige Blackwell, has among many other examples given us..
Hickstead, Hickstead, Hickstead, Hickstead. Duck Soup, 1933
Words beginning with K-N-O Words that end in B-H-E-A-D
HMHB are a veritable cornucopia of wittily observed lyrics.

The grass is always greener.

Especially as it has a great rhyming couplet later on:

"Don't pick fights with the bullies or the cads
'cos I'm not much cop at punching other people's dads"

New Order gave us a thing of beauty...until Bernard gave up on the very last line...

A thought that never changes
Remains a stupid lie
It's never been quite the same
No hearing or breathing
No movement, no colours
Just silence
Rise and fall of shame
A search that shall remain
We asked you what you'd seen
You said you didn't care
Sound formed in a vacuum
May seem a waste of time
It's always been just the same
No hearing or breathing
No movement, no lyrics
Just nothing
The sign that leads the way
The path we cannot take
You've caught me at a bad time
So, why don't you piss off?

Poll: Best hug a stranger / fall down five rows / 'limbs' late goals this season

Wonderful track from a great album. Although I remember feeling very disappointed about the version of 586 having heard the original on the John Peel show.
I have often wondered if the 'movement' was referring to the first album title.

the guvnor of rhyming couplets....

Had a love affair with Nina
In the back of my cortina

Could not have been more obscener
She took me to the cleaners
And other misdemeanours
But I got right up between her
Rum and her Ribena

On the other hand:

"I drove her to an incubator
Where 30 minutes later..."
... is simultaneously a great rhyme and wildly overoptimistic about labour.
