| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 18:21 - Mar 5 by Benny_the_Ball | Again, that boils down to character and leadership. When QPR win free kicks around the penalty area, Chair and one or two others have to have the minerals to tell Barbet "Monter votre vélo". |
(Obviously I'm writing this on the wife's laptop...) 100% agree though - Barbet has had his fcuking chance with those free kicks. The lack of adaptation is unbelievable - it's like he could swear that used to work but it's a surprise to him every single time that it doesn't. Great player for this club in the last 2 seasons after a shaky start but he should be stopped by the coaches from taking frees. It's a farce.

We have made a vast improvement in the last 12 months and on our budget are competing really well. The manager and board know our limitations but we have and are giving it a go this season, but just fizzling out at the wrong time.
| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 18:32 - Mar 5 with 1550 views | Paddyhoops | We never looked like getting back into it after they equalised. Lots of players bang out off form. Last ten minutes was especially worrying as we created nothing and Barbet's free kick at the death summed it up! Field and Dunne best of a bad lot. Results against Barnsley, Peterborough and Cardiff who are just poor sides point to No play off Spot which is sad really as we looked good for such a long time. Hope I'm proved wrong. | | | |

| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 18:14 - Mar 5 by BklynRanger | Ok but I think you'd agree it's not Chair's fault. If he is part of the decline it's how he's been used and the pattern of play that we've dropped in to on his return. I did think he came back in a bit automatically to a winning team having hardly played for 6 weeks, which could have caused problems, but that may be bordering on Heat magazine stuff. Either way Ilias isn't the problem, he's a gifted player we're lucky to have, it's how he's being used if anything. |
Chair is a poor man’s Taraabt, with Chair and Willock together, the game slows down.If they can’t work a situation out it goes back to the defence and we all know wot happens then.
| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 18:34 - Mar 5 with 1536 views | gobbles | The first 30 minutes of the second half was just awful. Little passes and going nowhere, not trying to get forward, not trying to score. Deeper and deeper and in the end we just invited them to attack us. Chair, Hendricks, Field, Odubajo, Barbet - sideways, sideways, tap, tap, backward, backward. Shrink the pitch to five yards squared. Terrible. Subs too late to make a difference, it was obvious what was coming but we were just trying to ride our luck. Some guy on the way out was trying to blame the ref - no chance, that was all self-inflicted. [Post edited 5 Mar 2022 18:38]

| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 18:07 - Mar 5 by stevec | Gifted the game to a team who had nothing to play for. My take on Hendrick is a player who could make 100 passes with 100% accuracy and not a single one of his passes would make a blind bit of difference to the game. Warburton wanted more time on the training field, he might as well take them down the pub. No drive, no risk taking, only intention was to pass our way from side to side and hold on to a 1-0 win. What was it, 4th against 19th? Abysmal. |
Hendrick made one world class cross field pass in the first half... apart from that everything was sideways or backwards. Me and Holy junior said 10 mins into the 2nd half that all the dicking about would cost us in this game... seen it a hundred times before. Cardiff were there for the taking today. If we had gone 2-0 up we would have won the game 3 or 4 nil. lets be honest if we did sneak into the playoffs we would lose the semi comfortably. The squad is tired and short of ideas! We need to use this season as a building block for next season... steady progress and improvement each season should be the goal of the club. Playoffs next season would be a better bet imho.

| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 17:25 - Mar 5 by Damo1962 | Agree. Hendricks has added zilch to what we already had. Sick-note Dykes and a completely shot Austin have finally caught up with us. A real attacking, dangerous player would have given the rest of the players and supporters a real lift. Even Chair and Willock seem to have realised this. They have carried the strikers for too long and have probably had enough. |
The most unnecessary signing we could have ever made. We have too many midfielders if anything and for a team apparently strapped for cash, a totally unnecessary signing. He has given us nothing more than we had and we are still playing him. Lots of opinions different from mine on Chair; I think he has been great since he came back bar a couple of games and yet some have got the knives out for him now - utter madness. Dickie started the game in the same way he has played over the last 3 months; sideways passing, no risks even when there was twenty yards of open space in front of him. Then, just before the goal, he started striding and, lo and behold, they panicked and we won a freek deep in their half. WHY DID HE ONLY DO THAT TWICE IN THE WHOLE GAME??!! Arggh"! Dunne was poor today; outfought by their strikers; yes, even Hugill. Wallace, Chair and Willock showboating at one nil. Very pretty guys, but you went absolutely nowhere. That game felt like that scene in the Indiana Jones film when that guy does all the fancy sword twirling for Indy to pull out his gun and shoot him. Basic football wins stuff sometimes. I'm sure that our experts on LfW all have a view on what's going wrong; mine is simple: 1. Hendrick - not the player, not the performances, but the unnecessary act of signing him - waste of time in that position and 2. Strikers - Gray proved again that he is fecking awful; yes, he scored, but at 51 with my belly and my legs I still reckon I'd put more effort in that him. At times, he was an embarrassing impersonator of a "professional" footballer. Where the hell was Austin? Unfit or dropped for some other reason? And then Dykes, clearly a sick note for one reason or another. Our CBs play deeper than they did at the start of the season, the opposition flood the midfield knowing that will force us long, which we duly did, sometimes asking Chair to go up against Flint. That said, Gray and Willock against Flint was only going to end one way, which it predictably did, but we still continued to do the same thing. I lost count how many we flung straight down his throat. We have no striker who can hold up play and no central midfielder who can play off any of our strikers. Anyone know why no Austin or Johannsen today? I left early today (85 mins). I was ashamed to do that, but my god we were awful. I can't bear to watch it back, but did Dickie just fall over for the first, or was it the foul that it looked like? Of course if Wallace and Gray finished their perfectly presentable chances, we'd not feel this way, but of they they did and of course we do.

| Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 19:41 - Mar 5 with 1285 views | ed_83 | Absolutely gutted to lose this one, and not entirely sure how it happened. Cardiff were abysmal, but got gifted two incredibly soft goals, at which point we just totally collapsed. No bottle, no heart, no fight. The contrast between this and the Blackpool game is unbelievable. I know most people seem to think we were rubbish, but I actually thought we looked very good indeed in the first half, moving the ball at pace and creating plenty of chances. At half time I felt like we'd shown that we're capable of playing like a top 6 team when we want to. I also thought we came out sharp in the first 10 minutes of the second half: if Gray takes a touch when Willock puts him through, as he probably could and should have done, then you'd bet on him scoring. From there it's a completely different game: fine margins and all that. The key moment for me was Cardiff's double substitution and change in formation on 55-ish minutes: they went 2 up front and started pressing our back three much more aggressively, which meant we couldn't build up our passing with the same fluidity. Field and Hendrick dropped deeper and deeper to try and alleviate that pressure, but Willock and Chair stayed where they were: this left a massive gap in midfield, which meant Cardiff could turn the ball over in increasingly dangerous areas. When we did get the ball back, the distance between defence and attack, and the lack of movement from the latter, meant we couldn't do anything with it: again, maybe not a popular opinion but I felt like we did at least keep trying to go forwards in the second half, it's just that there wasn't enough movement or space ahead of the ball to give our defenders decent passing options, so we reverted back to knocking it sideways and backwards. Whatever the reason it's clear we retreated into our shells and undid all of our good work from the first half. Both of Cardiff's goals were the direct result of shocking decision from the ref - two absolutely blatant fouls on Dickie and Dunne in the build up to each one - but we should never have been in that situation in the first place. If you give the opposition time and space to run at you around your own penalty area, you can't really complain too much if they get a lucky decision or two in the process. But I think the most depressing thing about today was our reaction to those two goals though: our discipline, communication, movement and ambition all got worse rather than better. We looked completely out of energy, focus and ideas. It feels weird that we ultimately deserved to lose a game that we'd absolutely dominated for the first hour, but the way we folded when Cardiff came at us was inexcusable. As to why we've dropped off a cliff, I think it comes down to the thinness of our squad, and the number of players who've lost confidence, form and fitness all at the same time. I don't think Warburton's lost the dressing room, or that the issues here are with the players' attitude, they just look mentally and physically exhausted (regardless of whether you think that's acceptable 3/4 through a season). Had we been able to keep up the intensity of the first half for the full 90 minutes, there's no way we lose that game. I was told before the game that we have the highest average minutes per player in the Championship: we flog our first 11 harder than anyone else, and I think it's beginning to show. It feels much the same as that McClaren season when we played basically the same starting lineup for 6 months solid, and then fell apart. Also, of the 4 loanees who were so crucial to our change in form a year ago, and who we were so excited about in the summer, only Sam Field has been playing at anywhere near the same level this season. Maybe if we had a deeper squad with more competition for places then that might push players more (again with the unpopular opinions but I thought Gray's movement and showing for the ball for the first 60 minutes today was impressive, and almost certainly prompted by Warburton dropping him) but in most areas of the pitch our alternatives are either injured, inexperienced or equally lacking in form. Past a certain point, though, you can't keep blaming individual players - it's starting to feel like there's something not quite right with the squad as a whole, regardless of all of the extenuating circumstances above. In terms of where we go from here: it's going to take a serious change in form for us to get into the playoffs, and even if we manage that then I still wouldn't fancy us against any of the teams on course to join us there. I still fancy us to finish higher than we did last year, and would argue that challenging at the top of the table for the majority of the season still represents progress no matter where we end up. We're clearly a few players short of being able to consistently challenge for promotion, and something seems off within the squad, but given the progress we've made over the last 2 years I still think Warburton deserves the chance to fix things rather than us thinking about getting rid of him. Today was possibly the most frustrating Rangers game I've ever been to, but things could very easily be a lot worse. [Post edited 5 Mar 2022 19:47]

See today where such triangles lost us the ball and Baardiff had a pretty good chance. Never mind.....altogether now........side..... forward......back......side......side....forward....back....side. Great for possession stats but no good at all for winning games or putting the oppo on the back foot, and bloody risky too. | Frankly, we got what we deserved today. on 20:05 - Mar 5 with 1196 views | DieByYourSide | Worrying. As others have stated it's hard to pinpoint exactly what's gone wrong, barring the obvious deficiencies in the squad (lack of pace, lack of a top striker) that hadn't held us back too much until a month or so ago. Thought we'd come out all guns blazing after a decent first half to get a goal to finish the game but as soon as they got their first (another Marshall error, Seny out for a month - great) the belief from players and fans just drained. There's still enough time to turn this around - we're on no kind of form at the moment and if the playoffs started tomorrow we'd be going out in the semi-finals, no questions asked. If you want to look at it optimistically, it's still in our hands - we're playing a lot of the teams around us, and getting drawn into a real fight for 6th and then making it could give us some momentum. At the moment though, it looks like we're just not good enough. ALSO - Ole'ing at 1-0 up. Jesus wept. I know it was kind of ironic because of the possession going nowhere but still.
