Was thinking that if more teams adopted Gazball as we’ve seen in the last couple of matches, could it leave the ball left on the halfway line with both teams sitting deep in their own halves waiting for the other team to make a move?

Totally agree. I must have missed the games before he came and the Barca type football we were playing

Some of the games under boil come to mind as examples of pretty good, progressive football, which shows that these players were at some point this season capable of playing this way. But, as we all know, deceit, injuries and whatever else led to a horrendous collapse. GA has come in and kept us up which is great, and it doesn't matter how. But GA's defenders resorting to saying fans who disagree with them want 'Barca type football' or that they think we are city or should bring in Haaland or whatever is ridiculous, because under Warbs and then boil we were building a bit of a style, so it's not something completely out of reach and this is proven by some of our performances under the managers mentioned.

The club has said for years that we want an identity and style of play and for any coach/manager that comes in has to suit that style of play. Which they did with Warburton, Beale and Critchley, Ainsworth is a big departure from this and leaves me wondering how it will play out now. Will we go full 'Gazball' or will he adapt his style of play, I guess it'll be somewhere in the middle.

Poll: Who’s better?

Gazball on 13:33 - Apr 30 with 11937 viewsbosh67

I think it's pretty simple. Any expansive way of playing has to be done with confidence. We had no confidence so we were leaving holes and being picked off. In the games against Norwich, Burnley and Stoke he obviously felt he had to load up the back line, sit deep, have an all hands to the pump mentality and try and catch teams on the break. It's ugly, it's industrial and it worked. Perhaps if he'd adopted it 3 games earlier we'd have been clear quicker but I'm glad he went back to the absolute basics of set yourself up not to lose.

Never knowingly right.

GA's style was boring but effective, what was needed. Let's just see what he does next season.

It's dreadful to watch and I'll accept it was what was needed given the situation we were in but let's not kid ourselves it's shocking style of football. Be interested in how this goes but would imagine it will be 10-15 new players and a departure in style but intriguing how he tries to shape the side and style of play. If it starts badly then fans will turn and he will be gone fairly sharpish.

Let's not forget we were 12 points clear of the bottom 3 when he took over and he lost to the worst sides in the division

We’ve gone from having possession with hardly any shots on target, to having to have all our shots on target from the 18 mins or so of each game we actually have the ball.

Exactly, GA’s 11 points from 12 games extrapolated over the season would have us on 42 points now, still staring at relegation.

To be fair, it feels a lot safer than us having the ball.

And whilst we’re sitting back, having a quiet fag, we won’t run out of steam in the 60th minute.

Apparently Gareth has given a number of player's names to LF to try and bring in so we will see what Gareth's proposed style might be when / if these arrive.

On one hand, well done to Gaz for grinding out the 7 points at the end but lets not forget we were 8 points clear when he came in.

Our squad player for player is not bad at all for this league so I'm not having any of this "great achievement" talk re:avoiding relegation. It should never have got to this point.

Will back him next year though I don't feel particularly optimistic.

And Critchleys record of 5 points from 11 games plus a cup defeat

Before Gazball we had the majority of possession and zero shots on goal, or we had 2 shots on goal but zero on target. A bit like Sjoke yesterday, they had all the ball, but I think they only had two shots on target out of 6. Whereas we had 4 shots on target out of 4.

We controlled that game; true, Sjoke were clearly on the beach, but we won with the lesser team. What is even more fascinating is that we had zero corners yet still had more shots on target, which shows that if you want to win you have to shoot and be on target when you do.

Make no mistake; these QPR players are not as good as we thought they were. The table does not lie. But if you get your tictacs correct and focus on shots on goal, you can win with only 20% possession. Gazball works, now if he can make it entertaining we have a manager.

But, again, you're not taking into account that the rot had set in LONG before Beale finally left!

But the last 5 games were DLDWW, which got us 8 points from 15, which over the season would have got us 73 points and a place in the playoffs!

You are not factoring in how the experience of struggling and then finding a solution positively impacts the team psychologically and creates its own momentum.

I doubt VERY much that that would have happened under Beale or Critchley.

I thought I could see where the Club was trying to take us with the appointment of Crumpet and Boil. I thought Crumpet's sacking was premature but I could see that they thought Boil was the man to take us further in terms of building a solid squad playing expansive football. Even the Critchley appointment made sense in that they hoped he could carry on where Boil left off.
The appointment of Wild One appears to me to be a panic move, both out of desperation to save us from relegation by appointing a QPR legend who they hoped could motivate and unite players and fans and it kind of worked well eventually!!!

The championship is a strange beast and the kind of football that grind out results isn't always very beautiful so i guess we will have to see. But I do feel the Club has shifted their ambition down a gear

That is probably actually very healthy, especially given the impoact that FFP will most liklety have on squad-building next season.
It could be that someone has finally managed to get through to them. I notice the lack of Tune-branded "Founder Members of the Premier League" marketing guff recently that we were all "treated" to when the current Board came in in a "blaze of glory".
It was very noticeable that Amit was keen to stress that "we didn't get involved in the club for financial reasons" in the charm-a-thon that they put on the official site when GA was appointed.
The lessons learned from pre-Warbs Ollie when we escaped relegation by the skin of our teeth as well have finally sunk in, it appears.

You're not hearing what I'm saying - its a gross oversimplification to just look at the WDL ratio without understanding the dynamics behind it. You have not taken any time to consider the psychological condition of the squad before GA took it over (spoiler alert: "not very good"), the time he needed to work out what would turn the ship around, the fact that the players felt particularly bruised by all the upheaval they'd undergone and then them finally trusting him, implementing what he asked them to implement and them seeing the results and trusting in him/the process/themselves to carry it out together.

Considering what he inherited, i think he's done a f*cking great job, and fortunately, I'm not the only one who has that opinion.

Agree. I'm old enough to remember when Don Howe was manager of Arsenal. He perfected a playing system based on an ultra solid defence and a fast breakaway forward line, with a target man. It certainly wasn't "pure" football but it was extremely successful as they won countless games 1-0. Personally, I'd rather we played this than the tippy tappy out from the back style which most Prem teams can't play without conceding stupid goals.
