Its been 1 game but, Should the club do more to promote in social media a new encouraging tactical change this season? To get those that have stropped off due to death by passing.
For a further push for more season ticket sales. If the - 'keep Calm - Pass it sideways' ethos is truly dead. How do we entice the afflicted back?
Last year we should have replaced Desmond, with Stu the Sloth. But, If this seasons going to be a good product, what about some noise around it.

As said elsewhere, there should have been an interview with the manager to build upon the positivity of Saturday’s performance. One which aimed to focus on the changes those there witnessed.
It makes you wonder if that was noticeable for those who could have ensured such communication went out to the town. That alone could have seen 2/3 people who have been reluctant to buy a season card change their minds.
There could and should have been a highlights video available on YouTube, even if it was only a couple of minutes.
There needs to be a shift in culture. Those at the club cannot complain if the new regime identify this very quickly and demand such a shift occurs.
Maybe the Ogdens will pick up on this, with their business background. 'A New Era' headline is being pushed in the media but should relate to the way the club is run too. include new implementation of ideas, spotting these opportunities and being alert. To make some money.

The obvious thing to do is sell "rest of season" tickets pro-rata with the price for 23 games so that people can buy discount tickets for the remaining matches at any point. I really dont know why this might be difficult its simple maths to divide the full season price by 23 and multiply by the number of remaining games.....
Equally there are 23 opportunities to target specific groups of potential fans, so Under 11s, under 16s under 18s , pubs, workplaces, cubs, scouts, junior teams, social clubs, schools etc. etc.
I wonder how much the list from the £1 game last season has been tapped? I bought my ST last Friday but I can't say I have been innundated with emails or even a letter to go and get one...actually 2...

Well it might be a new era and new owners of the club but we haven't exactly ridden the crest of the wave and capitalised on the feel good factor have we? Plenty of player signings but off the pitch it's been the quietest close season and build up to a new one that i can remember. No open day, nothing new in the club shop, no new kits to buy, no idea what the kit will even look like, the players are still having to wear last seasons kit, no news regarding future plans/ development with the stadium, no real attempt to promote season ticket sales or engage the Rochdale public. We had a friendly at Spotland last Saturday, we've got another in a few days time...why could they have not been promoted as free admission on the day to everybody, it's the school holidays and it's a free afternoon out for families. Things like that are a open goal if we are trying to increase attendances but there isn't the foresight from anybody at the club to implement it.
In fact what has changed behind the scenes up at the club, is it the same old people making the same old decisions, the same old mistakes? The ones who always know best and treat most fans as imposters because they have the temerity to voice their displeasure. The way the club has been run obviously hasnt worked, we came within days of losing the club and the Chairman/ Directors were scrambling for somebody to come in and save it. That in itself tells you that things have to change, the Ogdens need to put people in place with a track record of success in football or the corporate sector, if we carry on just doing the same things as before the club will get the same results.
The missed financial opportunities in respect of trying to increase season ticket sales and sale of merchandise, new kits etc over the Summer is something that shouldn't be happening. The fact that many fans appear not to have renewed their season tickets is also a fall out from last season, that needs addressing because once they stop coming it's hard to get them back. Up to now i haven't seen anything new about the current 'New era', just wasted opportunities over the last couple of months to increase revenue and engage the Rochdale public. It just feels like the same old, same old, with no real figurehead driving the club forward and engaging with the fans and general public. Is there anybody at the club with the personality and expertise to engage with the wider public, somebody with real people skills, i cant identify anybody with that skill set and i think tge club is crying out for somebody like that. A big personality who has experience working at other clubs.The club needed shaking from top to bottom, for example the matchday dining experience and the food needed improving, has that been done? How about tablecloths on the tables to give it a semblance of class when you're eating rather than bare wooden tables...little things like that? The little things matter. There's No spark or excitement around the club and we shouldn't just have to rely on the manager and players to provide that.

The Ogdens did not get to where they are by not having a touch of Business Acumen. Being fair, there was an interview with McNulty after he signed his new contract.
Also, there has been no need for the manager to ‘read the room’, only for him to utilise the different ways of playing (which we did see last season, albeit not often enough) that make the most of the players attributes. We did pass it round at the back on Saturday as well, it’s more that we played the majority of the game in Carlisle’s half.
The general point is spot on though, not having an interview with the manager after such a positive display is baffling.

I think there’s plenty of patience and understanding of what the Ogdens and the newer people that have arrived will have to tackle.
It’s things like this that those already at the club, new era or not, can influence and get right.
I must admit the media at the Dale is poor, I can remember when there was regular updates from the manager on the team and injuries, and now there are virtually none.
We do not know, if there are further recruitment, etc.

Well your post gives me hope. I hope you are correct and things are apace for the correct people to come into the club and start changing things around. Simon Gauge and the Directors, including those who are no longer with us stepped up and put a lot of their own money into the club, we are forever grateful for that. They belong in the boardroom though alongside the Ogdens and we need people with proven track records in relation to working in and around football clubs to start driving the club forward. We dont need people meddling neither, trust the people employed to get on with their job. It costs money to employ the best but it will reap rewards further down the line. A CEO with a proven track record and a Director of Football would be a good start. If your car needs repairing you go to a mechanic, if you're sick you see a doctor. Get the right people into the club with specialist professional knowledge and contacts. Don't employ 'yes' men who will just agree with everything, we need new ideas and change. The owners of the club are the Ogden family now, i hope they take the bull by the horns, after all its their money. Speculate to accumulate.

I assume the delay with the new kit is because we didnt place an order until the takeover was completed and it was sure we had the funds in place to continue. Now were back of the queue in the manufacturing it seems. Only week and half to start of next season so looks like it'll be touch and go whether it'll be ready even for the first team to wear.
The social media output has been bare minimum with no reaction from the manager after any of the pre-season games. As other have said a very low key build up to a season. Something to question at the upcoming forum.

The sales and marketing team was decimated last year and the newly appointed commercial guy has been in situ for about 5 weeks. His priority is to develop a plan, and work hard on sponsorship and commercial revenue over the summer, where the bigger numbers are. He can turn his attention to fan based marketing thereafter. Rome wasn't built in a day and the Ogdens will judge the success of his plan in a years time.
Of course we got used to bigger pre-seasons, often from a Spain based training camp, with daily media feeds, lots of interviews etc plus early bird deals to incentivise early take up of tickets. We are a smaller club now, sadly, and we just can't replicate that right now. We have allegedly "right sized" and some things have gone.
There is a fans forum in Thursday. Maybe some of these questions and challenges can be directed to the decision makers then - submit the questions via the Trust if needs be. It would be interesting to see whether they sense that the pre-season is flat and uninspiring.

While appreciating everything you say, especially the bits about pre seasons past being a bigger deal, interviewing a football manager after a football match is pretty basic and happens at levels much lower that Dale with even less resource.

I can't make this next one, but it appears there are a number of questions that could be raised regarding fan engagement
I think it's important that any points/questions should be raised without it being seen as criticism, but rather as a way of helping the new regime move in the right direction

The priority for everybody at the club this summer should have been to increase season ticket sales and get the club shop stocked up, target those with money to spend prior to them disappearing on their Summer holidays. Are we a smaller club now? If that's the mentality of those running the club then the three year plan hasn't got off to a great start and that mentality needs to change. Maybe that mindset is why many fans seen to have walked away from the club, a realisation that the club and those who make the decisions are happy to accept regress? No regress in matchday prices though, so why bother? We have suffered one relegation from the EFL and now have credible new owners with a three year plan to return us back to that level, theres no reason to think we are a smaller club now, it could possibly be in the strongest position it has ever been from a financial point of view. The last fans forum was akin to a Jim McNulty love fest, it was nauseating. I'll steer clear for fear of upsetting people who take offence at being challenged.

Not everybody has social platforms such as X, Tiktok, Snapchat, Facebook to name a few on their devices etc
I have seen on whatsapp other clubs using that platform to keep supporters updated on new signings, scores, announcements or offers so why are the Dale not using it..

Obvious points those in relation to the finance in the EFL We aren't a small club in relation to a lot of clubs in this league and we have the advantage of a parachute payment still which many other clubs don't. We are also now coming from a sound financial footing which many clubs don't have the benefit of. I was expecting experienced staff to be recruited for specialist rolls and for them to be in the building now or close to it. I realise it's probably my fault for expecting too much too soon. If we start the three year journey with a small club mentality that's the totally wrong mindset. One poster in particular banged the drum last year about nobody wanting to invest in little old Rochdale. He was proved wrong about that, yet again a small minded mentality in relation to our club.
For a large chunk of the last 15 seasons we played in L1 against the likes of Southampton, Portsmouth, Charlton, Sunderland, Bolton, Sheffield United etc. We've competed in cup competitions and nearly beaten Man United, Newcastle, Spurs. We beat Leeds and Milwall. Made millions of pounds in transfer fees and redeveloped the stadium. None of that was a fluke, the club speculated in the transfer market and had a policy of bringing in broken toys and improving them. The youth Academy was set up and flourished. Keith Hill was the biggest factor in it all but any success at any club coincides with having the right manager in place. Look at Ferguson and Shankly, Klopp, Pep. We also had a good CEO and good people in the boardroom with ambition to progress the club. There is no reason why we can't climb to those heights again and that should be the aim of everybody at the club. The ones with the small club mindset and accepting second best should get their coats and leave. We know what the club is capable of with the right people in place. I'm surprised Cameron Ogden hasn't spent a hour or two with our most successful Chairman in our history, Chris Dunphy. If it was my club that would have been my first port of call.

It’s with thanks to things like this forum, for us exiles to find things out. Thankfully I still have friends and family back home, but for those that don’t or don’t know this site exists are pretty much in the dark….
I am surprised with the lack of comms re replica shirts as 1 example. I understand if we are delayed due to late orders as a result of a takeover, as that would make sense - but announce something surely?! I think I read a hint a sample would be available on view before the Carlisle game, take it that turned out to be a red herring? It’s a shame the club has lost out on some early much needed revenue, and we’ve not had chance to enjoy 18 degree rainy summer days showing them off…

I completely agree with TS on the need to move the club forward on and off the field. Seems to me that there must be a desire for the new owners not to rock the boat with the existing board members. I suppose from their point of view it was only a few months ago they had no inkling they’d be owning a controlling interest in a professional football club, so I suppose imposing too much on the old guard risks friction which they would rather avoid. How long it takes them to realise the weaknesses in the old approach - it remains to be seen. Maybe they never will.
