That's a surprise, tall Paul getting a few minutes on Saturday. But perhaps he could offer us something different & he is a proven goalscorer albeit in inferior leagues. But the sheer fact that he's back in favour proves what we're all thinking is that we have a weaker squad than when we got relegated. Fasten your seat belts & hold on tight it's going to be a rough ride this season.

I wouldnt quite say he is back in favour, I would see it as more as putting him in the shop window, letting Trabzonspor know that we are serious in not accepting a derisory offer and are prepared to keep him if necessary, I would be very surprised if he was in the squad at Newcastle next week.

He seems to be have developed some sort of cult hero status, like Guly. The reception he got when he came on at St Mary's yesterday was the biggest cheer of the game. But, he still looked as awkward and unathletic as ever. Every time I see him play, he reminds me more and more of Dieseruvwe, who scores goals for fun in the lower leagues, but lacks the skills required at the highest level.
Talking of 'cult heros,' what's surprised me when the teams have been announced at the pre-season home games is that the loudest cheer has been for Alex McCarthy. Meanwhile, I'm thinking,"Ssshhh, don't encourage Russ to keep picking him."

I've always said it was a good job we had those walls so close to the edge of the pitch at the Dell as he would have just kept on going until he hit either Archers or Milton Road depending on what way we were kicking!

I remember him 😃 Wasn’t Chicken George a character that stared in Roots?

I remember Tall Paul playing in the game against Chelsea away, a game we won one nil, the season we went down. He also came on at West Ham away and hit the bar. He didn't play anay other games that I can remember so wasnt given a chance. He looks like he could be a real handful. I would rather him given a chance and him play rather than Mara.

I believe the nickname was started by Danny Wallace.
I just looked him up on wiki to see if they said what he's done since and quite liked this bit which does bring back the memories:
According to Holley & Chalk's The Alphabet of the Saints, he "soon brought added meaning to the word unpredictable". He was "full of strong surging runs" and "would, when remembering to take the ball with him, completely perplex opposing defenders and cause havoc in the penalty area".

And what exactly is using him right ?
From what I’ve seen he’s shit in the air and not much better with the ball to his feet .
Give him a chance and not a few minutes at the end of games. If a player pulls on the Saints shirt support him, that's how confidence is gained. Is he worse than Mara or our invisible forward we got from Sunderland?

Agreed. I'd prefer to see Tall Paul playing than Mara. Playing with Mara is like playing with 10 men, have we really given Tall Paul a chance to prove himself, I don't think so. At least the opposition would have to think about him they don't have to worry about Mara. Don't get me wrong I'm not a Tall Paul fan (yet) I just don't think we've seen enough of him to judge him
