From memory I think Luton were the other club with an artificial pitch so it came as no surprise that they were comfortable playing on ours. [Post edited 4 Jan 3:24]

Luton were the opponents for our first match on the Loftus Road plastic. They won.

I played on our pitch in a charity match for Paddington post office just before it was dug up and replaced with grass, and it was a horrible surface to play on,especially for a goalie like me.Just outside the penalty area at the loft end there was a strip that had been repaired and it was lower than the rest of the surrounding omniturf. It didn’t help me to have about 14 players on each side just to give everyone a game.No linesmen and about 12 attackers in the box for every corner.I think it ended up as a cricket score. It was the morning after QPR drew with Newcastle 1-1,and the cleaners were in.I lost count of the amount of cans and bottles they cleared from the Geordies end.

Didn't they get theirs just after us though? I seem to recall we were the only one at the time but they followed after.

Yes, Luton installed their plastic pitch in 1985, 4 years after we introduced ours. Preston and Oldham laid their plastic pitches in 1986. So, for a short while at least, we were the only one. Interesting article on our omni-turf pitch here: https://thesefootballtimes.co/2015/10/19/they-used-to-play-on-plastic/ [Post edited 4 Jan 20:48]
