He was involved/running the place a good deal of time before his appointment was formally announced.

You mean...he lied when announcing...his own announcemount?

Cheers I didn’t realise, if he was/is a key driver of the improvement, fair play to him.

Isn’t that the same gap that Leicester exploited with the change of prem and championship status ?

Neither in one or the other when it suited them and therefore avoided the serious point deduction and fines.

Smart legal advice and poor football admin. No doubt City will find something similar to exploit amongst the 100+

Leicester extended their accounting period and so straddled two seasons. Perfectly acceptable in the business world, but only allowed due to badly written FFP regulations. I'm sure the regs used to say that for clubs whose accounting periods didn't end in May, June of July, they had to prepare FFP returned to 30th June.

In the 5 or so years before finally reaching the Prem, Brentford sold around 10 players for 5 million plus each...including biggies like Benrahma and Watkins...and replaced them well enough to keep upward momentum and eventually not only go up, but stay there.

Now we all know about Benham's business / advantage with player info etc etc - but it still shows it can be done this way.

Agree. It is a very achievable goal to reach the PL, and remain there, as long as the club is being run correctly. Look at us this year, cut adrift in November to 4 points off the play offs come February. With a not great team.
Get it right off the pitch and success will naturally follow. I am actually very optimistic for the next few seasons now.

I know, I shouldn't joke about Nourry.

He was, to be fair, the man who discovered and bought Rodney Marsh.

As Clive made the effort to source Swiss Ramble's revised disallowables estimates, the least I can do is update the FFP table.

It looks as if a breach was never a doubt then, just as you kept telling us. Well, repeatedly reassuring Beth!

Thanks for updating Simon. See you Saturday.

Thank you Simon and well done to the owners and Noury.

Those creative mainly owner sponsorship deals seem to have been the difference, just as we thought and hoped they would be. Just done in the nick of time too.

Nobody appeared to want to sponsor the ground etc so the owners put their hands in their pockets, again, and saved us from the wrath of the EFL.

Hi Simon

Thanks for the analysis.

I don't think your cumulative numbers have updated to reflect the adjusted disallowable cost figures.
The rolling 3 year loss becomes -37,705 to give the 1,295.

If we work on the agreement that the numbers are more or less right, it shows exactly why we had to have signings last season agree to defer most of their salary to this season, as the wiggle room accounts to c.£25k a week in wages, which doesn’t go far these days in the Championship.

It's remarkable. I consider myself 'reasonably' intelligent, with a fairly decent education, but I can not make one jot of sense of this. Utterly utterly useless when it comes to figures. Am I right in saying we have just squeezed in under the permitted 39M deficit over the rolling 3 year period?

We did Myke.

Our losses, after allowances, were £37,705,000, we were allowed to lose, £39,000,000. We snuck under by £1,295,000.

Never in doubt.....

By about £1m. So choose your fighter really. The sponsorship of the ground and the stands. The knockdown price sales of Dieng and Dickie. The deferral of wages to the following year by Colback, Cook, Andersen, Frey. Without any one of these we'd have been in the sht. It was close.

Successfully locked his mother into a long term contract with service guarantees and secured rolling options on his father with punitive break clauses.

Do we know what makes up the disallowable costs (doubt it) and why they increased? I presume the answer to the second question depends on the answer to the first.

The disallowable costs comprise expenditure on infrastructure projects, depreciation of fixed assets, youth development, community schemes and women’s football

The opening of the training facility (a fixed asset) has seen a measurable rise in depreciation, and the cost of the academy has risen. Whether this is genuine or having the academy and first team sharing facility has blurred the edges is open to interpretation.
