'The conversation' was a fantastic film .
Hackman's interaction with John Cazale was beauty to behold. Cazale's only other films were 'The Godfather' 1&2, 'Dog day afternoon' and 'The deer Hunter' , not too shabby!
Gene was equally as good, if not better in 'The Scarecrow' with Al Pacino. try to see it if you can.
For me the 1970's was the golden age of dojo exploding cinematography, expermentation of scripts and the actors true craft .

the scarecrow is a great film....
i first got to see it on tele in the early 90's, videotron.
just flicking through and lucky enough to catch the very beginning of the film where hackman and pacino are deep in conversation along some railway tracks i think, and completely lured me in.
hackman is quite violent in the film, where as pacino plays a complete opposite role to what we are used to him being in.
