For me that was one of the greatest sporting moments I have ever witnessed. Watched it from about 5pm our time right through to the finish. Epic in every sense of the word. It had something beyond the normal sporting narrative.

My brother texted me: if at first you don't succeed... (said in a Norn Iron accent) and I replied: Troy and Troy again. Seemed suitable for such a legendary moment.

Happy for him. An admirable man in so many ways, not least his refusal at a very young age to get involved in any sectarian nonsense. That took guts back then.

Yes, and I have been so impressed not only with his anti-LIV stance but also how he speaks about it. He knows full well the absurdity of the wealth on the PGA tour, never mind LIV, and unlike some golfers (hello Poulter, Westwood) does seem to still have one foot in reality.

Only issue was that it was Rose he beat rather than that buffoon DeChambeau.

Not nornally a golf fan but that was incredible last night, such drama and emotion. I thought he'd lost it when it went to a playoff but he did so well to get over the line, can only imagine what was going through his head at that point

Wonderful spectacle and fantastic result. McIlroy is one of the good guys.

I'm so glad I stayed up to watch last night and I'm not a big golf fan.

McIlroy's shots on 15 and 17 were insane and his reaction to his winning putt was one of the great sporting moments.

Suffering since 1978.

Great night of golf.

Have to say though as time goes on I really struggle to warm to golfers. No real characters anymore, just automatons hitting golf balls and earning stupid amounts of money.

No doubt it's an amazing achievement for McIlroy and he joins an illustrious few who have managed a Grand Slam. But I can't say I felt delighted for him.
