Look at the quality of the teams Tonda managed to beat … 08:25 - Nov 11 with 2219 viewsdavidargyll

Whether or not he is the right man for the job I don’t know. But if you base it purely on the ability required to beat the two pretty good rubbish teams we have just beaten, then we really are doomed to mediocrity…

You can only beat what's in front of you and, I don't know if you'd noticed, but before Tonda we couldn't beat anything that what put in front of us.

We certainly need to find out what other teams he can beat. So, he should continue as our interim manager before any final decision is made on who our next permanent manager will be. As long as we're winning, there's no need to hurry. That pool of unemployed managers is always out there, and there's a reason why they're unemployed, which isn't winning games of football. So, I agree, let's not rush to doom ourselves to mediocrity, but we also need to acknowledge that getting our first back-to-back wins in more than 550 days is not a bad start at all.

A point that was made on Total Saints Podcast, is that its better to appoint a manager when its not desperate. i.e. if the wheels start falling off for Eckert following the international break, when we have a busy schedule and 10 games in the month, the damage will destroy any slim hopes of making the playoffs. Also make us a less attractive proposition in the process for any credible manager..
You also don't want a manager to be coming in then with back to back games, and meaning they have very little time to change our ineffective and failed formation..

To me it just looks like the players didn't back Still and are now just playing to the level that they should have been. I am not seeing anything from Eckert, other than him making less disruptive changes during matches. The formation and tactics still suck and we look like we could concede at any time.

Imagine the outrage there will be on here if we replace a manager with a 100% win record with one who's beeen sacked by his previous club for losing games and then continues to lose here. That's why we shouldn't rush.

Fan prejudices for or against various potential managers shouldn't count; winning games of football is what really matters.

Long term we just know if Tonda is capable of being head coach for our club.
But I don't think we'd have won those last two games if Still had been in charge so at this stage Tonda has done exactly what was required.
I think there is very little chance of us getting into play offs this season & good job we don't because can you imagine us back in Premier Lge, we'd be the Whipping Boys & get less points than last time
So I think SR will stick with Tonda on the basis that he gets some stability into the club. CONSOLIDATION IS THE NAME OF THE GAME THIS SEASON.

Every manager appointed since Ralph has been bloody useless. We have been unable to beat far inferior teams. Two wins in a week means that Eckert has EARNED some more time. He won't win every game but I would give him until January. If we are doing better over the same number of games Will had (a low base, but I think he will,) then he is better and should stay until the end of the season. The money saved would pay Rambo or be a down payment on a striker.

It's going to get ugly again if we lose to Nathan Jones.

I'm in total agreement with "wait and let's see" brigade.

This is reinforced by the fact that the list of "available" managers or coaches seem to be mostly made up of abject failures.

And I can see no reason why a successful manager would want to come to us, in the first place - especially if they have any knowledge of SR.

to be fair we would have won both games to nil if we had a competent keeper so at the very least hes bought the club time

And if Tonda were to make it 3 on the bounce by beating Nathan Jones, it will look fantastic.

Then four on the bounce...

His winning both games as made the decision tricky. It's nice problem to have.

Even with the players in revolt against Will Still they surely would have struggled to not win against QPR and Sheffield Wednesday so I am not convinced that Eckert has achieved anything yet. An away win at Charlton would be more of a statement. By the way, does noone think that the players’ lack of effort under our recent manager wasn’t completely disrespectful to the club and the fans.

Farke looks like he'll be available soon. He knows the Championship and has a couple promotions under his belt.
