Blow me, apparently the ref was right...

...although it says a dropped ball, NOT an uncontested drop ball. Or are they all uncontested these days?

It came from the away end but can’t believe one of their own fans would be dumb enough to do that when they were attacking.
Unless it came from the lower loft ?

I sit in the lower school end and it sounded like it came from the corner of the lower school end towards South Africa Road. Just after it happened I saw a few stewards come have a look in the paddocks but I’m not sure if that’s related and they disappeared quickly.

Found out who it was…

This prompted me to look at the law.

2. Dropped ball

PROCEDURE

If, when play was stopped:
the ball was inside the penalty area, the referee drops it for the defending team goalkeeper in their penalty area
the ball was outside the penalty area, the referee drops it for one player of the team that has or would have gained possession if this can be determined by the referee; otherwise, it is dropped for one player of the team that last touched it. The ball is dropped at its position when play was stopped
All other players (of both teams) must remain at least 4 m (4.5 yds) from the ball until it is in play
The ball is in play when it touches the ground.

OFFENCES AND SANCTIONS

The ball is dropped again if it:

touches a player before it touches the ground
leaves the field of play after it touches the ground, without touching a player
If a dropped ball enters the goal without touching at least two players play is restarted with:
a goal kick if it enters the opponents’ goal
a corner kick if it enters the team’s goal

Two things I have learnt:

a) The distance other players, of both teams must be away from the ball.

b) That at least two players must touch the ball, after it has been dropped, before a goal can be scored. So you could pass it back to your keeper and if he missed it, it wouldn't be an og.

Definitely seemed from my position in SAR, that it came from the paddocks.

Think the person concerned or the phantom whistler did us a big favour as the wing man on the right had a very clear opportunity for a free run and cross, so thank you to our unknown hero !!!

Was nursing a bigger hangover than usual so watched on the club feed.
End of the paddocks adjacent to school end is exactly what it sounded to me.

I think the “phantom whistler”was a bit more common in days of yore.
And of course it was a “ bounce up” then.

I was in the lower part of B and it sounded like it was right below us in the Paddock.

Maybe next time, could someone interrupt play when the opposition are clear on goal and take up the challenge of being the menace that is and was the "Phantom Raspberry Blower" ...
