| Ronnie Edwards on 15:48 - Jan 8 by dmm | I'm pleased but I also wonder where that leaves the likes of Smith, Akindileni and others in the DS. Cook will leave in the summer so that's a slot. And JCS; well who knows? Maybe I've answered my own question. |
Agree mate, Cook going, suspect JCS and possibly Morrison will go. I wanted Morrison to work out but he seems very prone to injury. As you've mentioned I'd like to see Smith given a run out.

I think Morrison provides good cover for Dunne and Edwards as a really decent looking CB partnership. Whether being second option works for Morrison personally is I guess a different question.

I disagree. Like many CBs, he won't show his best without a consistent run in the team and regular defensive partner. He showed great promise not long ago until injury - it isn't him we should be consigning to the written off pile.
| Ronnie Edwards on 07:58 - Jan 9 with 3040 views | dmm | I also like Morrison and don't understand why some are negative about him. He's calm on the ball, good positionally and reads the game well. His relatively slight physique is something he can work on. He's still only 22. For me the only real negative has been his injury record, but that's something that's an issue for plenty of other players in the squad. | | | |
| Ronnie Edwards on 08:13 - Jan 9 with 2959 views | WestbourneR | I don’t personally feel he’s ever showed ‘great promise’. I felt he was ok, as in, not a disaster, and pretty positionally astute. Really the cause for excitement was he was young and new and from Bayern Munich. And most importantly we were struggling at the back at the time and needed a new hope. But to me his physique is a huge problem. He’s neither quick nor strong. He’s not commanding in any way. And certainly if he is to progress, which I doubt he can, then he certainly needs to playing week in and week out, not sitting on the bench as back up. | |

Personally dont think we needed him, we could have got a lot of lower level players for that and in my opinion we have done well with that. Think I have an adverse reaction to us blowing loads of money on a player. The financial situation is very important at this club. Just have repeatedly seen this go tit's up for us. This might quieten the fans when they roll out the under 15s on sinday and phone in another cup game . Hope i am wrong | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agree re comments on Morrison. He has been decent at times, still young at 22. When he has had a run in the team, has been fine for me. People already promoting Tylon Smith above him is a bit nuts. The guy hasnt played a single competitive mens match as yet. Yes he has done well at age level football. Didnt get a minute on the pitch at Afcon and only played in Carabao Cup farce against Plymouth. Morrison was in and around at Celtic and Bayern Munich. Possibly similar routes to QPR, but Morrison has already showed he can kick on. Yes there is hope for Tylon, but he has zero experience as yet. Cook and JCS wont be here or performing much for ourselves. Why ditch Luam Morrison ??? [Post edited 9 Jan 8:51]

for perm deals it used to be 1230 on the friday before a game on the sat to allow for paperwork to be sent through and signed off , not sure if thats still the case though .

Said the very same a couple of times when the Gorgeous Ronnie interest resurfaced. JCS and Cook are going, get the business done early. Unlike the signings of the Aussies, Smith, and the Akindileni, this really feels like a signing we're making ahead of time and of a player who is clearly good, but still has bags of potential. Whether Morrison has it or not, I can see why some are unsure, but I think he'll do as cover for Dunne and Ronnie. I also think Akindileni, admittedly based on what little I saw of him in Perpignan, really has something about him. Christ, but I really hope this works out, as it does feel like we've bet the farm on this one!

Hmmm not really - all that money was blown on late 20's or early 30's players with no resale value - Edwards could easily be worth 3-4 x his fee in a couple of years, he may well not be but at least the potential is there unlike Austin, Stef, Odubajo etc

| Ronnie Edwards on 10:44 - Jan 9 with 2257 views | JordanFoster | Find him signing utterly bizarre, would have looked for the 'next' Ronnie Edwards potentially on loan with view to perm now or even just let Morrison fill in until the end of the year. Then go and get someone in the same vein as Kone/Burrell. Playing for your family club on loan whilst taking home your Premier League money for 6 months is very different to being here on a perm and I cannot fathom how you make serious money back on his investment. I hope I'm wrong and I'm not paying it so why does it matter but think we have been here with Saito and this team is crying out for a physical No.8 that can get around the pitch. | | | |

I'm not 100% sure, but I think he has to be registered with us by 12.00 (noon) today. Let's remember though, that he made his debut for us at Leicester last season & was as poor as everyone else!

Theres a loophole in the FA rules which would enable Ronnie to play on Sunday. It involves him getting a dodgy haircut, shoving a pillow under his shirt and calling himself Steve Cook.

I'm as titillated as the rest of us to see him signing, but I did think there were a handful of those really poor team performances during the slump where he wasn't really able to affect things, regardless of his hair, teeth and other aspects of dreamboatery. He'll be a great addition, but not the messiah (obviously) and he wasn't cheap at all. On a certain level this reminds me of buying myself a pair of very expensive earphones mid December, on the credit card, because I felt I really did need them and they were so much better than the other two pairs I already had.. They are good though and life's too short so fcuk it.

| Ronnie Edwards on 12:05 - Jan 9 with 1591 views | plasmahoop | It is big money, but he has more sell on potential than a lot of people. | | | |
| Ronnie Edwards on 12:08 - Jan 9 with 1567 views | simmo | Well this is a lovely signing, should it all go through as planned. I know our recent record of converting previously popular loan signings hasn't gone well, but I don't think this current management are as concerned with the popularity vote like Fernandes was, and are hopefully applying the same underlying metrics to this signing as any other (e.g. age, development / sell on potential, buying clubs preferred profiles, previous league experience, eyes you could collapse into, etc). Not only is he a fine example of a modern defender, but he can play multiple defensive positions and gives us the equivalent of a right footed JCS, but with availability and still a lot to prove. Saints fans seem pissed that they're selling him, even if they haven't rated his performances as much, and we know he actively wants to be here which is a great start. A few expectation temperers though, for my own benefit if nobody elses... 1) he will be coming in this time with incredibly high expectations as something of a white knight, rather than an under the radar loan signing to cover a position of need like last time 2) It doesn't solve the most pressing positional issues in the squad, and although it's early in the window you don't imagine we'll have anything like this kind of money available for other signings. Compare it to Boro who are likely signing Castledine for around 20% of this outlay, while we have little to no cover behind Madsen, and £5m could have been used across a GK, LB and CM... 3) the reported fee might represent amazing value, and if someone like Cov or Leicester were picking him up 6 months ago for anything close to that 5m ish we'd all be spitting about what an amazing and smart pick up it is, but it's still a LOT of money for QPR in a team that's spent very big (relatively speaking) in back to back seasons, following a decent summer spend. The accounts are going to be v interesting next year. 4) Less of an expectation checker and more wondering out loud, but what does this mean for the other CBs on the books? Does it potentially block a seemingly good pipeline of younger talent? We signed 2 highly rated young CBs this summer, one of which - the South African - is getting lots of hype as a genuinely strong prospect. Clearly they're quite far from Championship standard right now, and Cook won't be here past the summer, but we also have Morrison who presumably drops to 5th choice CB in a team that only uses 2 a game... Are we officially giving up on JCS as a legitimate option? Do we expect to sell Dunne in the summer? Anyway I'm rambling slightly, overall I am excited that a player that looked so good before (literally) is going to be back in a QPR shirt and be ours permanently. Seeing his name on the team sheet and looking resplendent in the hoops will make all reason fade away. Welcome back, handsome. [Post edited 9 Jan 12:49]

| Ronnie Edwards on 12:16 - Jan 9 with 1473 views | LazyFan | Decent CB, if he was faster he would and better in the air he would be playing in the Prem. Which is why he's available, £4.5m is way too much, it should be £3m max. Also, means Cook is defo off at the end of the season, no renewed contract for him. If Dunne signs for another season with Morrison, we have cover in the CB department. JCS cannot be relied upon as we know. There is the possibility that Dunne does not sign a new contract for next season, so then we shall need Edwards for sure. This is good long term planning, but the price is too steep. More importantly, can we have an LB now? I mean, is that too much to ask. | |
