A few days ago. At the end of this clip. Right up there with the Gordon Banks save. The last angle is ridiculous, it's past him and he still gets to it.
Top save indeed (real Billy the Fish stuff) but what also struck me was the simplicity of the goal: forward pass out of defence to unmarked midfield player who takes ball on half-turn, plays a forward pass himself (not automatically back to where it came from) to striker who takes a touch or two and scores. Not rocket science. Julien could do worse than make this compulsory viewing for our lot.

My long gone dad was a Jambo. When I was a wee lad we lived just minutes away from Tynecastle. He'd often regale me with stories about the great Hearts side of the 50s with their iconic forward, Willie Bauld.

Would love Hearts to win the league this year.
The 'Terrible' Trio - Conn, Bauld and Wardhaugh - under Tommy Walker. By all accounts, one of the truly great post-war sides. Had a GD of +101 (plus one hundred and one goals) in one season...incredible.
Yes, it would be wonderful if Hearts could do it this season. The pessimist in me insists that it remains impossible, given the ludicrous ongoing financial advantage of the Gruesome Twosome. But great for them to hope and dream.
Sadly, in these modern footballing times, it might be worth them sacking off the Scottish Cup today in the 'finest' Warnockian style. Tbf that was probably their undoing in the trauma of 1985-86.

I have my dad's book 'The Terrible Trio' by Brian Scott and about Conn, Bauld and Wardhaugh. It sits alongside another book of his: 'The Hearts' by Albert Mackie in which he got Willie Bauld and Jimmy Wardhaugh to sign. They are very much loved keepsakes.

I still think the Banks save in 1970 was the best one I have ever seen. Perhaps part of it is that I saw it live (on TV!). And thinking about it, I can remember Pele rising above everyone else, heading it down and presumably in. Coleman on commentary assumed it was in. So did I. But how Banks not only got to it but flicked it up and over the bar is incredible.

Fantastic save. Bearing in mind the match time, it probably ensured them an extra two points, which could make all the difference at the end of the season.

Seeing these comments, I was expecting something more. Banks' save was better. And Nardi does like three of these per game and everyone thinks he's shit.
