The type of person we are getting in, I guess whatever job he went for, he didnt fit the profile. Would have brought in passion thats for sure... But he has a braodcasting career and doesnt he have some interest in the horses as well. Does supporting the club through thin and thin qualify ???

Obviously, I have no idea what the job is or who he’s in competition with and, although no one’s entitled to anything, any employer will take all factors into account so someone with his profile should be in a pretty strong position. The person they’re giving the job to must be very impressive.

Yes agree. And it could be done to drum up support. Everything is public knowledge these days but if a company turned me down at interview, I dont think it would be looked on favourably if I had publicly announced my rejection. Wouldnt help me in the future. [Post edited 2 Aug 20:36]

Would be guessing he way to football orientated and not enough methodology based , i mean what would a striker of his experience bring to the club at all levels anyway

| Charlie Austin on 05:06 - Aug 3 with 5542 views | PlanetHonneywood | It's entirely possible that he wasn't the best fit for the job and another candidate was! Rather naively, he's also just broadcast that he's not good enough for us! My bugbear with the appointment of SLF as DOF were: how was the vacancy identified? What was the job spec and who else was considered? In other words: was it a proper recruitment? I suspect knowing the fools running QPR at the time, the answers were: oh that's a goid idea and, ohh yes, the fans love SLF so let's give the job to him despite the fact he was sat in a tracksuit on the Spurs bench a few weeks earlier and had no previous experience! So, if we've undertaken a proper recruitment process, and CA is not the right person for the job, so be it. | |

Tbf, Les had spent 6 years coaching at spurs. Ted, I don't see anyone having a go at Charlie, but the fact that he's made it public knowledge surely makes it fair game to talk about? I don't see this regime employing someone with such a large social media presence, and especially given how emotional Charlie can be at times, I don't think that's unwise. [Post edited 3 Aug 17:52]

True. However, it was still a massive jump by any stretch of the imagination. I think he was coaching their strikers at the start, not sure if he progressed further. But to go from that to the role he had at QPR, in which he had no previous experience in, was let's just say, a gamble at best. Again who else was considered, as you'd expect when conducting a proper recruitment? I'm more confident this lot's decision to say no to CA has been thought through compared to SLF's appointment. Whether the regime was also concerned about control and, as said above, his SM presence and 'emotions' might have been a factor...who 'kin knows!

He also got a management qualification to help him transition into more of a director role prior to being appointed. At the time it was nice to have someone involved who you could expect to put the club first unlike your Arry types. What needs to be remembered as well is that a lot of clubs didn't have a DoF at that point, so people with experience were few and far between, so we'd have likely been giving whoever we appointed their first crack at the job. The other end of the scale is that we may have ended up so with someone who interviews well or embellishes their CV who's just trying to get their foot in the door to move on at the first opportunity (Mick Beale style). Not saying he was perfect but I think he was a safe bet and did what was needed initially to reduce the wage bill.

| Charlie Austin on 10:01 - Aug 3 with 4796 views | LazyFan | Silly of Charlie to mention this. As the one thing our club loves is secrecy, and with Charlie's rep of being an influencer and now doing this as part of the process, his chances of getting another job with QPR are zero. | |

Let’s be frank. He has zero chance under this leadership. If anyone’s face doesn’t fit, it’s his.
| Charlie Austin on 10:21 - Aug 3 with 4690 views | daveB | Bit of a no brainer to hire him here especially given the age groups he was gonna work with, would add great experience for them and someone to look upto. Probably not the best idea to go public but seems an odd decision to look elsewhere. | | | |
| Charlie Austin on 10:33 - Aug 3 with 4638 views | Geoff78 | He's got loads of experience but a lot of ego too. I can understand why he might not have been the best candidate. | | | |

Reading that article, he hasn't said anything that paints the club in a bad light. Wouldn't think anyone would be particularly upset by it. It's a bit of an overshare but that's social media for you and Charlie is all over it. I'm sure he'll find a decent job somewhere. Good luck to him.
| Charlie Austin on 10:55 - Aug 3 with 4561 views | nick_hammersmith | Well if the current management have no problem moving on someone like Paul Furlong, with all his experience, then I think a vocal and popular figure like Charlie would not work out very well. I think the club will do well to move away from just hiring popular figures from its past. I'm 100% we'd have found a way to kill Steve Gallens career, had the club hired him for that DoF role he probably should have got after Les. I really enjoyed seeing the social media stuff Charlie did with the players like Kone, lets hope he hasn't broken that bridge | | | |

im sure any lunchtime conversations with cycling ben would have been excellent to watch for anyone present. lets be honest the most important thing for anyone coming to rangers is the ability to say YES at all time dont question things atall and just do what ur told , i dont think charlie would have done that for long ,

Makes me wonder if Charlie is actually looking for coaching work, as he has just broken the unwritten rule there... Or could it be he's raising his profile on Talksport, I dunno? Cycling Ben has some immunity for being one of Nourrys first hire/recommendations. In most walks of live a public rollicking in the canteen would land you in hot water with HR.

I think he to be honest. hes at that age when football is over, and prob like most ex players misses the routine etc of day to day football , its a shame hes not being used in some way kone for example would hugely benifit from training with charlie as neither had much pace but both were good finishers regardless
