I think we need two strikers and if Zamora isn't fit then Mackie in his place. I think that we have enough ball players in midfield with Ale, Granero plus Taarabt and Hoilett. Mackie isn't ideal up front. I would prefer Helguson a couple of years ago, because neither Mackie nor Cisse are particularly good headers of the ball. But without a new signing or time-machine, Mackie can do the job.
I think Fabio on one side and Traore on the other side running the ball up, provide width and speed on the outside.
I am not really sure about Nelsen and Hill in the middle of defense as that is a slow, static pairing. But I don't expect Southampton to be doing much except slinging the ball into the box and hoping for the best and those two are our best pairing against that sort of bang-it-and-hope-for-the-best attacking approach. |  |

While I also wouldn't play Bosingwa, I defintiely wouldn't pick Dyer ahead of Fabio. I was impressed with Dyer last time he got a game for us but we already know that Dyer isn't going to last a whole game. He is also flexible. As both Traore and Fabio are a touch fragile, having Dyer on the bench would give us flexibility to respond to either one of them going off. I guess the same could be said of Fabio but he offers more going forward. And we have to score a few against Soton | |
