Reprogramming my spare Audi key 07:40 - Mar 16 with 1207 views | kingsburyR | Morning All, I want to sell my 2007 Audi A4 Avant (anyone interested) and have the never used spare key sitting in a box since I bought the car new. I tried to open the car at the weekend with the spare and nothing. I assume its either the battery, needs reprogramming or both. As I work near an Audi garage I popped in and asked the service desk how much it would be to program the key, his response.................£78 + VAT. Friggin hell, I want it reprogrammed, not a complete new ignition. Any advise on how I can get it done cheaper or do it myself???

Reprogramming my spare Audi key on 08:13 - Mar 16 with 1176 views | WokingR | Is it actually a key or is it one of those plastic things you just insert into the dash? The key fob on my BMW was actually charged by the car each time I used it so if it is just the battery it may be that you need to open the car with your usual key but then drive it using your spare.

Reprogramming my spare Audi key on 09:15 - Mar 16 with 1127 views | essextaxiboy | I followed a Locksmith van the other day, It said "keys reprogrammed " on the back doors. Maybe try someone like that ? or Did you buy it new ? if not I bet the battery in the spare ran out and the previous owner just changed keys . Try googling VW Audi specialist ,there are some good ones about The cost is because the VAGcom diagnostic kit has to go through the whole cycle . I guess thats 45 mins Labour or thereabouts . I changed the batterys myself on my Passat . They are just watch batterys from Tesco . Edit . Dont leave it apart for too long , have a peep at the battery type then put it together again till you change it . Too long with no power at all and it will need re programming . Sold my 3yo Honda last year (inherited an A3 turbo Audi from my late father) and the spare key battery had completely died. The battery is normally something pretty simple and should not be too hard or expensive to get replaced. I'd do that before investing in a re-programming venture.

Basically you put the key that works in the ignition and turn it on so the electrics light up - then you put the new key on the drivers door and do quarter turns and press buttons - I don't remember the specifics but it's an easy 2 minute job. Make sure you keep the drivers door window open in case anything goes wrong, that's important.

Reprogramming my spare Audi key on 12:25 - Mar 16 with 960 views | WestbourneR | No problem mate. Battery probably needs replacing but again they're easy to buy - check the exact spec on line, it's one of those flat circular batteries. Once you pop the key fob casing open and put the new battery in then you'll need to do the re-programming I (kind of) described. 2007 A3 is the model I had so it'll be the exact same process.

Reprogramming my spare Audi key on 14:44 - Mar 16 with 902 views | qprphil | I have a Jag XF, the Fob batteries I change every 3 years. All I do is go into one of these shops that do watch battery changes, they will do it for you, just had my Jag one done a month or so ago cost me £5. Not saying Audis are the same, but reckon they might be.
