| Amos on 22:51 - Mar 13 with 3183 views | sdm1508 | Who does he replace though? Need to play with a striker as false 9 didn't work and we were probably at our best when Chair and Wilock are both on the pitch. So that probably means either Field or Stefan. Thought we looked better when Stefan went and played a deeper role | | | |

Yes but he can do a very good job as sub or to provide different options. Willock and Chair together have been great for us. But it can be a bit predictable as teams know by now exactly how they'll play. Having Amos on offers something different and it may be my imagination but we seem a bit more dynamic when he's on the pitch.

Do you think Warburton sees this? We were so much better in the last 20 minutes with Amos and Willock on the pitch. No idea why Hendrick is selected for every game.

I honestly don't know. I also wonder whether he's still protecting his knee a bit, which might explain him being used sparingly.

In for Hendrick imo and play 1 of Chair and Willock up front, the other coming on last 30 mins when game opens up

Was delighted when he rattled into the fella near the end. Love to see more of that physicality from him. Has to start ahead of Hendrick for me if they go three in midfield. Good energy, can break from deep and support the attack. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Amos on 23:35 - Mar 13 with 3004 views | T_Block | Yes agree.I think his energy is worth a try.The worry is is he defensively aware.having said that Stefan needs the energy of both Field and Amos around him. 60-40 probably. i would rather go down with youth 9who can learn) at Forest. Here's a question why was Hendrick let go at Newcastle? | | | |

Hendrick, obviously. I also want to see Chair and Willock together on the pitch as much as possible for the run-in, with strict instructions to weave their mischief and magic in the final third. We still need to play more of our football higher up the pitch, and if Warburton and the coaching staff don't see this, they're part of the problem imo. Jojo also needs an assigned role as skipper - I thought he was supposed to be our playmaker, not that you'd know it during the past few weeks - and then to play it. He and we can't be happy with his peripheral performances of late. Like Charlie, he looks like he's aged three years in a few months - why is that? My other main worries remain about (i) Marshall's wobbles and (ii) up front, despite Gray spluttering into a bit of welcome belated life vs Looton. Not sure if we have the firepower and defensive stability to sustain a challenge, but this is nowt new of course, and hope I'm proven wrong. [Post edited 14 Mar 2022 2:16]

| Amos on 06:50 - Mar 14 with 2546 views | dmm | There are good arguments for Amos starting games, most of which I'd make myself. I think the point should be made that, given since his return from injury he's mainly come on as a late substitute, he will look dynamic because he's fresh. Not that he isn't an all action player, he is. But if he started games I'm not sure he'd play like that all the time. | | | |

I didn't mean Luke was protecting Luke's knee, I meant maybe Warbs was protecting Luke's knee, hence not overplaying him. I agree he's got stuck in. It's just completely speculation obvs.

It’s a difficult one for MW as if we want Willock and Chair together then, playing a wing back system, there’s little room for Amos certainly in the role he’s best at as we will go back to the nightmare of Johansen fighting fires on his own (or now, Field) in front of the defence. To play Amos from the start, again to get the best out of him, we would need to dispense with wing backs and go to a back four, but that would disrupt probably the best part of our team, the back three of Barbet, Dunne and Dickie who were magnificent again yesterday. I think carry on using Amos from the bench, in his Dele Ali role, for the remainder of the season. His time will come particularly if Barbet leaves, I’d imagine we might go to a back four next season, good wing backs aren’t easy to find.

To be fair, Gray hasn't had a run in the team until now and I think he's done pretty well in a team that rarely attacks and has been in poor form. Strikers need a run of games to find their form and if Gray gets that run his fitness should improve too.

You make some excellent points. We've recently seen that Warburton is now prepared not to play our two no 10s at the same time, I think because at least some teams have worked out how to counter that system. I suspect in the remaining 10 games we'll continue to see tweaks to formation and system to keep the opposition guessing such as 352 we saw yesterday, or 3421 perhaps with Amos as one of the 2 which could help the CMs as Amos is more of a box to box player.

With regard to Johansen, imho we are nursing him along. There was photos of him wearing some sort of cast or support on his leg before we signed him. I have a personal 'in' with a Fools staffer and when I asked has SJ got an injury, he declined to comment. There is other evidence in as much as he constantly needs treatment during matches and has missed odd games here and there. I think Hendrik was signed to give us another experience midfielder in case SJ 'falls apart'.

I agree. As you say, the advantage of everyone in our team knowing exactly what their roles are and playing together regularly has been to some extent reversed by other teams learning exactly how to play us. A certain amount of tweaking is probably a good idea at this stage. Maybe sometimes playing McCallum/Odubajo instead of Wallace too to provide something different.

Those are my feelings on Johansen too. Another player that should only be introduced after 60mins when the pace of the game drops.
| Amos on 09:47 - Mar 14 with 1959 views | denhamhoop2 | For me he is better as an impact sub but what he does give you is an extra body in the box and sometimes it is a numbers game scoring goals | | | |
| Amos on 09:49 - Mar 14 with 1953 views | robith | Dare I say it, we looked pretty stable when Chair was at AFCON and we had the central 3 of Amos, Stef and Field, who all complement each other well. Personally, I would start with those 3 as the basis of our spine, and if it means only one of Willock or Chair, so be it | | | |

Well Hendrick is a given, I meant more on the fact that Wilock was on the bench so either Chair or Wilock would be on the bench if you are going to bring Amos in. Think we are at our best when we have both Wilock and Chair on the pitch as they work well together but to get Amos in, one of them might not start.
