Deal to broadcast all EFL games live.... 10:50 - Oct 12 with 3593 viewshubble

...being discussed, plus end to the live football blackout.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11304587/EFL-consider-ending-

Is this a good, bad or..? for EFL clubs and Rangers in particular, of course? I'm thinking it won't affect gates adversely, and it will allow tens of 1000s to watch games live.... but I'm sure others will disagree.

Poll: Who is your player of the season?

to me, its an obvious decision

the games are already available online. if someone is so inclined, they can easily find a stream and watch the match illegally on some dodgy stream- the efl might as well try to monetize that, and its better for the fans

the fact that the EFL locked in Sky to an exclusive broadcast deal shows you how utterly incompetent these clowns are- why do that at a time when all of the other big boys are circling around and bidding up licensing rights? efl left loads and loads of money on the table

Yes, as mentioned above the Sky EFL "package" was a dreadful deal, The Red Button????? Really??
Their are many outlets, Platforms, Streaming Services who would surely have a more positive option than that on offer at the moment.

Mind you their will be problems, the Division is to large, I can see play-offs for Relegation perhaps, ( please god not involving us.

Yes, a Worldwide streaming service with Pay per View per customer, would be enormous earner for Clubs, (near full house against Reading even with match live on Sky).

It mean mean the Championship becoming a separate entity like the Premiership perhaps?

This seems a good idea but it'll end up being more cost and in one sense less choice becuase you'll be paying for various different platforms constantly and more so i reckon already you have

Sky Sports and BT for example.

Why not let the clubs stream their own matches. Then fans know there is one place for all their matches and all the revenue stays in house. TV companies could be hired for technical help if required.

At the moment, I stream every match that I am not at, as I am often 'out of the country', at £10 a time. There is no way that I will subscribe to Amazon or anyone else as I have a season ticket and I am not paying twice. So if it replaces streaming the club will lose my money. I know I am not the only season ticket holder that is often 'abroad'.

Yes, this would be the best solution (for the clubs to copy the Formula 1 Model) and own your own Broadcast Rights with your own Championship Streaming Service, no shortage of US Broadcasters who would let you "Piggy back" their Platform.

Just needs some real leadership Qualities from one of the Clubs?

I'm sure Lee Hoo's has suggested something like this to the powers that be that gave us the SKY "wreck your fixtures, destroy your travel plans, put the same club on week after week, stop parents being able to take their kids to games" wonder Contract.

Would prefer it was done like in the US where no matter the size of the support the clubs get equal shares of the money. Allowing clubs to do it themselves will only increase the gap between the larger and smaller clubs.

That is the only plus for me,this will eventually become televised games with half full stadiums.I hate watching my team on tv on the rare occasions I can’t go.

I’m sure there will be deals with broadcasters that necessitate the moving of fixtures. Do armchair fans only watch one match per weekend? Does everyone want to watch at 3pm on a Saturday?

I've been wondering if this idea would ever gain currency and would normally fiercely oppose it. Now I'm at the age where my wife and are struggling with problems, I would gladly pay the equivilent of a senior citizen ST price to attend when fit but have the option of watching Nick and Andy.
A bit like pensioners' TV licence I suppose !

Not convinced clubs streaming their own matches at EFL level would pay. Does anyone know the income from our presently self streamed matches?

For a start, it would likely only be of direct interest to QPR supporters. The advantage of a media corporation is they have the infrastructure to access a global market. Better to have 1/24th of billions of consumers than 100% of say 20000 individuals and even less households.

Think we get around £5 million a season under Sky agreement, there’s no way we could make £5 million profit doing this ourselves.

Probably now is the right time to revise access to live football, as long as there is a fair share of funding from the new deal to all clubs in the EFL. The current moving of weekend fixtures in the Championship for Sky broadcast is a right old mess. The debate if all Saturday fixtures are to be available is likely to centre on loss of match attendance revenue, financial rewards to clubs for TV availability and the platforms and cost of broadcast to viewers.

There's absolutely loads they COULD do.... but it will end up being sold to Sky and the games will be at the shit times they always are for no reason whatsoever other than to supplement the Premier League.

Apple have signed a massive deal with MLS.... would love a streaming giant to take the EFL and have every game live. What a selling point to be able to show that many games at the click of a button.
But it's far to forward thinking for EFL

*If* Apple/Amazon/whoever do it right. The rights to watching Prem games in Canada, for example, have switched from DAZN to Fubo.tv this season and there is zero analysis before or after the game or at half-time - just the game plus Ads. I suppose the same can be said of QPR+ but at least we get to enjoy the bromance that is Sinton and London.

If you can show every game why would you need to move fixtures to different times, the 3pm game wouldbe the only live game at that time on tv, if they move games to sunday or friday sky/BT will just put premier league games up against them anyway

From my point of view one of the best things about sporting events on the main streaming platforms is the ability to watch them at any time, pause them, and fast forward.

I often do that with sky matches, but can't do that on QPR+

It wouldn't stop me going to matches, but would be fantastic for when I can't, and can't watch a live stream.

Think of our support for the playoff final. That's a lot of QPR supporters that don't attend HQ.
There are others like myself who've held season tickets for decades but can't now for whatever reasons. This allows them to be far more connected to the club.
There's the cost of the season ticket is not only in pounds but time.

My Dad passed away last month from dementia. I'd kept going as it was his lifeline even though I've got a young family. Covid meant we didn't even know we'd seen our last match together. or say goodbye to the people we sat with for 30 years.
Now I just pick a few games and take both my kids but just can't devote the time to going live all seaosn. I do miss it.

So point being there's a market out there and I don't think live vs tv are that much competition. TV is never going to beat meeting your mates for a pint and wandering down the Uxbridge road to HQ. It's just not the same experience but there are lots more of us that love the Rs but can't attend regularly in person.

If the club is the only broadcaster, you may be right. But other broadcasters will also buy the rights to showing packages, I assume. If all the matches are at the same time people will watch only one, reducing demand and revenue.

You would need a Netflix or Amazon to be on board for this to work, I don't think the clubs selling streams individually would create the same revenue but if they were on board and could market it that you every EFL 3pm game is live and then you can watch any game you want after that so if there are 3 games you wanted to watch you can still do that but 2 of them would be on later on demand, you'd just need to avoid the scores. It could work and would be worth looking into.
