| Time wasting 14:48 - Jan 18 with 3223 views | colinallcars | International FA are meeting in London as we speak, to consider the problem of time wasting ( we know it by another name of course ). Among considerations are a stoppable clock independent of the ref, encouraging refs to be stronger ( good luck with that mate ), and particularly looking at goalkeepers' behaviour. At least they are at long last taking this issue seriously. Apparently Newcastle have become the PNE of the Prem. | | | | |

Maybe it worked in Qatar because there was nowhere to rush off to.Some games here could see fans missing a fair bit of the match if they’ve got trains to catch, especially night games. But they need to clamp down on it somehow. [Post edited 18 Jan 2023 14:57]

They did. 2 minutes when they broke midway through for tea, and then 4 minutes at the end of the meeting.

yeah but it wiped it out within a few games. It's done here because teams know most of the time the ref adds on 3-4 minutes no matter wtf has happened during the game. Bring this in, after one saturday of adding 8-12 mins, it will stop, because players know it will be added on, so no point pretending to be injured or whatever.

| Time wasting on 16:34 - Jan 18 with 2257 views | PinnerPaul | Apologies all, started another thread and included this along with the audible communication. The interesting, to me, point, is what will Howard Webb/PL do now - as they (the PL) have already said they are not in favour. If it becomes enshrined in the law ( ie the wording is changed) it will be interesting as they will have little choice. Agree 100% with Dave though, 'just' enforce the law as it is. Reality is, to do this PGMOL have to get the clubs onside first. | | | |
| Time wasting on 16:47 - Jan 18 with 2210 views | LongsufferingR | I would imagine it will be Sky telling the PL clubs not to agree as it would mess up their schedules and reduce advertising times. | | | |

It’s also done to break up play and take away momentum from the team chasing the game. The cheats will find ways of ruining the game, maybe by only feigning injury in a vital part of the field. Adding on the correct time will help, but it won’t stop some teams from breaking up play as much as they can get away with.

any commercial breaks lost would be at the end of the game, Sky are quite smart in that now have 4 ad breaks during half time and very few after the game as they know most people have switched over by then

Won't stop altogether - as others have mentioned its also done to interrupt flow of the match and/or give a chance to give tactical instructions.

Something has to be done about spoof head injuries an easy way of stopping momentum , maybe a mandatory temp sub , while an examination is carried out

No substitutions after 80 mins unless head injury would be another way for me , won’t stop it but with the concussion rules if a p,Ayer goes off with a head injury having. To miss the next game might stop a few

yes but if its a possible head injury the player has to go through certain tests with the medic before they can move him. if its a spoof HI they still go thru the testing. Should be10 mins off the field of play or so as in NFL
