When is calling oneself a 'Striker' or 'Defender' actually misrepresentation? 13:05 - Apr 8 with 1519 views | Jules4367 | I am a professional design engineer. I get paid to design engineering. If I don't do my job- I get 'bollocked'. Being a 'professional' - I understand this and have a duty of care to my employer! If I continue to not do my job after justified verbal attack, the company can suspend some of my pay! I understand this !! I get paid for doing what I am paid to do !! I understand that - if I do not do what I am supposed to do- there are repercussions! I am sure 99% understand this principle! So I am now (say) a 'professional' footballer and my 'specialty' is 'attacking' . Pay me and I will score goals for you!! But what happens if I don't do what I am paid for ??? Oh yes, I still get paid in full! Or: I am now (say) a 'professional' footballer and my 'specialty' is 'defending' . Pay me and I will prevent goals being scored against us for you!! But what happens if I don't do what I am paid for ??? Oh yes, I still get paid in full! In any other business, world, whatever, someone would stop my pay! At what point is any player 'actually' made culpable such that it 'hurts' them and makes them understand?? If they portray themselves as a striker and don't score or a defender and don't prevent goals - isn't this professional misrepresentation????

Closer would be this: if a manager hired you to do a job that you did not have the skills to do, is that your fault or theirs? Or if you work in a low skilled job, repetitive, dull, and the manager bawls and screams all day and productivity is low and morale through the floor - is that workers’ fault or the manager’s fault? I worked as a breakfast waiter in my youth. When the hotel was full, we struggled to provide a hood service because… there were not enough lids for the teapots, there was only one toaster (for 220 guests), only one coffee machine etc. could i call myself a ‘waiter’ under those conditions? I know this is borne of frustration, but football - and all sport - is completely different to real life. Of course it is - why else do tennis players change coaches? Or golfers change caddies? Why is it Huddersfield can be useless under one manager but effective under another? One of the stupidest things uttered in football is ‘it’s a simple game’. Only in the same way chess is simple - until you play kasparov.
