Fabulous occasion.

Fans were superb.

All players put in a shift.

For me the difference was Summerville.

One of our better efforts in the cup. Shame we didn't get over the line but hope it gives a boost to several players to think they can compete with players at a higher level. And away from home too.

Well done lads....

I know that it shows my age, and it was a decent day and I am grateful Nourry / Stephan put out the best side we could.

But I just can't "love" going out the cup yet again, losing to West Bloody Ham and I am not that proud of the lads. They did OK in my eyes, not much more. They aren't fit enough. I will be proud when we actually win. West Ham were so bad, so short on confidence, I am certain it was a missed opportunity. We played the cagey game in the first half, which was all about getting the break at 0-0, but squander the whole plan and possession with 1 minute to go of it, when we had an attacking throw on and could just have kept the ball. So annoying.

And yes having a huge away support was fun, but yet again when we have one....we lose.

There was a moment in the second half yesterday, before he scored, when Kone did that arms thing at the away end to get more noise. Always hate that, but considering he hadn't moved his oversized backside at that point more than 5cm all game, really took the biscuit and sums up every time we have a huge away support. We're there, the players not so much. I was hugely annoyed with him at this point, but then he of course proved his worth in the end. Fair play.

Our standards have slipped so low generally, and specifically in the cup, that we enjoy a 3rd round cup defeat at a relegation-haunted (and very poor) Premier League side.

Yes, I am old and bitter and twisted. Standards. Sorry.

Edit: I meant to say, this is just how I feel, not claiming everyone should feel this way. And life is about enjoyment, so I am jealous of those who felt it was a great day. I am just grumpy as yet again no 4th round draw to look forward to!

Don’t blame your age. I’m older than you and still manage to enjoy life and get pleasure in things like one of the biggest, jolliest away days out there yesterday.

No we didn’t win, yes it’s frustrating to go out the cup yet again. But talking about standards is ridiculous without taking into account the context of the club. West Ham have spent over £500 million in the last few years, we’ve spent not much more than £20 million. God knows what their wage bill is compared to ours. Some of our key players included a youth player who’s hardly played because of injury, a striker in his first season in this league who hasn’t got an academy background, a right back who also played in League One last season and was playing against a winger that cost £25 million, a LB who’s been injured for most of the last three years and was put on the scrap heap by a fellow Championship side, a winger who has played most of his career in League One who gave a torrid time to an international player who has played over a hundred matches for Man U to the extent he had to keep on fouling him and a CB who is old enough to put his feet up really but still got stuck in and seemingly endlessly headed the ball from danger. We didn’t have four of our better players available likely because of a stupid Christmas period ending with injuries.

If you’re not proud of their efforts and what they tried to do for the fans and the club then you’re supporting the wrong club really. Having standards doesn’t mean you win everything in sight. Having standards means you prepare the best you can and put the efforts in the best you can with the resources you have available. Stephan and the team did that and more.

Nix totally respect your view but please don't tell me I am supporting the wrong club. Although the evidence of most of the past 50 years says that is right!

Your point about the gulf between the clubs financially is undeniable. That is not the standards I refer to of course, what I mean is that bigging up a 3rd round defeat as a great day just highlights how low our standards have gone.

Of course I am capable of enjoying supporting QPR, I love going with my boy and I enjoy regardless of the result usually. But I just don't think we were that amazing yesterday, and I just feel disappointment at the missed opportunity rather than great love for the day.

It's just how I feel; totally not having a go at anyone else for enjoying it.

I can understand frustration around West Ham being there for the taking, but injuries aside (a different, darker thread) I thought yesterday was good for that squad and the club.

Hopefully that will be the end of any thought of fielding weakened teams on these occasions because the players, and I'd say the majority of fans, will have left feeling positive.

One bit of quality from Sommerville against our developing cult 'hybrid right back' and a strong finish. Otherwise I think we'd have gone to penalties which would have been interesting.

There was a huge squad huddle on the sideline before extra time that contrasted with how West Ham looked to me, a club in crisis. And that's without even getting into the stadium discussion - e.g. I have very little idea how the ref was because a lot of it was happening in a neighbouring time zone.

I'm also old and bitter and twisted, I also would just like to win a Cup game for once!

Feels like you had to be in the stadium to enjoy(?) it. I was only able to watch the first half on TV which was dull, West Ham were terrible and definitely felt beatable, and we concede that shit goal right on half time. Then you had Saito going off with yet another hamstring injury, Dembele who boils my piss (yes I know he got the assist), I'd kick him out the club if I could. Of course nearly any other season at full time we'd have got the replay back at LR, although god knows what team we'd field for that one.

And it's Monday.

To some extent, I do agree with some of what you posted. BUT, mainly in the use of the word proud.

There might be a moment when I'm proud in defeat, but yesterday was a match where we did all we could & we were nearly (not quite) good enough to win.

Over the past 60 years I've seen Rangers make a 3rd round exit to clubs far worse that West Ham currently are, playing our strongest team & giving zero effort. That doesn't apply to yestrerday.

Proud? No. Pleased with our performance? Yes

I don't think anyone is bigging up a 3rd round defeat as a great day as such. We all feel the pain of another 3rd round exit but I think it's more in context of the game itself (putting aside the competition) and everything that surrounded it that has been discussed lots on here. For once we actually showed up, and that mattered.

As has been said, being there would have given anyone as a fan a different experience of the day compared to watching it on TV. I've said many times the two experiences are completely different, you simply cannot beat being there and being there (as awful as it was to get to and the stadium itself) with 9,000 others is what it's all about and I would wager anyone there will have had a different (and probably better, despite the result) experience than a TV viewer.

Pre-1992, football on the whole was mainly watched at the grounds. Live TV games were few and far between. That's all changed and the TV viewer has outstripped the attending fan but, IMO, that does not mean they have a better experience. I think it's actually worse, however more convenient and accessible it makes it.

I was in the away end, this is not about whether you were there or not. The poster above was bang on for me - yes it was a fun day, being different, and yes it was pleasing that we actually tried and played well. The equaliser was a great moment.

But as a long-standing QPR fan I am still entitled to feel what I feel. I repeat, I don't demand anyone else feels it. It is just how I feel.

The goal before half time was a sickener. As dull and boring as the first half was, I'm convinced we'd have gone in at half time and said let's have a real go, this lot are shite, and probably won - it then looks very different, and a perfectly executed game plan. We were well set up first half, but I don't think anyone realised how bad they were. Rash from Cookie and Dunne for the first. Second half up until the goal we were well on top, Smyth and Kolli had big chances, but the goal actually seemed to actually knock the stuffing out of us, we were dead after that.

I enjoyed the day out and thought we did well but those frustrated with a missed opportunity are not wrong.

We wasted the first half and conceded a really soft goal. When we did put a good spell together for 10 mins we scored one and created problems for them but then didn't seem to have the legs or energy to do that again.

We looked dead on our feet in extra time and with the injuries again our subs really weakened the team. Could have done with Vale on the bench to come on instead of Bennie who tried but has very little experience of senior football.

There were a lot of positives in the day. Joe Walsh was excellent in goal, Jimmy Dunne played well, Madsen and Hayden really good, Kolli was impressive and really liked Paul Smyth on the left. The goal and the celebrations were great but saying all that West Ham were not great and with a bit more belief I think we could have beaten them. We certainly deserved a replay if that was still a thing.

Rory Jennings is not everyone's cup of tea and he said this to wind people up but again wasn't wrong when he said any other Championship side would have probably won that game.

Lots of good points made by Gary, Nix and others here.

Dave, I think your post is a good summary of how I feel as well.
I'm 55, getting to the stage where I'm counting off the chances to win something.
I thought yesterday had some positives, ya, but cup football's about winning and that game was by definition a missed opportunity.

Like others, enjoyed the day and as I put on the stadium thread it was nice to see QPR in a big arena like that again.

But also like others I definitely came away disappointed because I felt on another day we'd have caused an upset. It was just the benches in the end that made the difference, we didn't have the quality to bring on whilst they could bring players on that were at least the same standard as those coming off and it showed.

I thought for a Premier League team though West Ham were garbage. Summerville the only player to me who stood out as being a cut above everyone else on the pitch, even Bowen I thought was very average.

Very unlikely they stay up I think.

You’re entitled to not be happy about it. But it’s using the word standards which implies if only they put a bit more effort in or prepared better that gets my goat. Jimmy Dunne looked almost inconsolable at the end of the match. They put everything out there, which I’m surprised you didn’t value as you were actually at the match. Those watching on the stream might not have got quite how much they put every ounce of endeavour into it.

I don’t get how you wouldn’t be proud of their efforts, with Mbengue barely able to stand up by the end. We’ve got two players in our team that came over from Africa and lived homeless to meet their dream of playing professionally and they love doing it for the fans. If you don’t see the joy in that then I don’t know what to tell you; while you’ve got players like Harry Winks on £90k a week who can’t be arsed to lace his boots. Talk about him and standards.

I don’t see the point of looking backwards all the time. So we used to play in the Premiership. So what? I used to watch Ray Wilkins, David Bardsley, Les Ferdinand, Andy Sinton. We don’t now and we have to build. Our standards haven’t fallen. We’ve just had to adjust our expectations because of financial realities. The gulf between us and Manchester City or Chelsea is so vast financially that they’re out of sight. I don’t think it’s age-related that some fans are so negative. I think it’s about always looking backwards rather than to the present and the future.

I’m all in for criticising the players or the losses when the players look disinterested or can’t be bothered but I’m at a loss if anyone thought that was the case yesterday, which is why it’s a weird one to carp about.

Didn't mean my post to be carping at all. Wasn't even digging out the playes, perhaps Kone excepted, just reflecting my emotions were more tepid disappointment rather than any great pleasure. I don't agree we were that brilliant though.

I don't mean standards like you do, I mean as a football club, our standards have surely dropped. Fitness standards? Of course Dunne and Cook were great yesterday, but they usually are.

Anyway, perhaps it's just Blue Monday or whatever.

If you only enjoy it when we win then you’re going to be disappointed approximately 60% of the time. Even if you supported a ‘big club’ like Chelsea at the moment you’d be only happy 38% of the time this season.

Yeah if you left West Ham yesterday with your primary emotion being disappointment (not with the result but with the team/club/experience) given the fact we did play our best available team and put all the effort in then I do think it’s a you problem, not a QPR problem.

Yeah, right Nix, I have some kind of problem because I was disappointed with a missed opportunity and going out the cup. Thought it was an interesting QPR debate but bringing it down to Chelsea references and "I am a better fan than you" implications - no thanks.

I sense your frustration, you've even expressed your reasons why. Fair play, as your views aren't necessarily shared, and I think you've maybe had an over-the-top response from one of us.

However, this being said, I think yesterday was lost not because of a lack of effort or desire. Not because of a poor game plan or poor subbing. It was lost because they had a player lightyears ahead of anyone we've got; we really missed Buzz and maybe in a game like that, Chair; and while we can debate the whole Ben Williams factor, we looked like a team carrying injuries who've played a lot recently.

That game should gave given QPR all the need to know about what's needed going forward and some comfort that we didn't toss it off from the start, but gave everything we had. A less fatigued QPR wins that. Fact!

And the good news....we're already qualified for the 2027 FA Cup!

Also don't forget that we were missing JCS, Varane, Chair, Burrell, Poku, Morrison and Vale. (would love to have seen Chair and Burrell out there yesterday!) A lot of those players would be starters, and we didn't even have them available on the bench to bring on!!

Didn't they bring on a new signing worth about £30m or something?!

Can't fault the effort of those that played yesterday. In another season we'd have got a replay or gone straight to pens. To have extra time in the very first game gives a massive advantage to the home team (or a team with strength in depth) to win. We were up against it on several fronts yesterday, and the lads gave it everything.

And no Ronnie yet which is quite mad to say again.

For the cost of 1 Summerville we would have to go back to signing Kelman in 2020 to reach that amount in transfer fees. Really puts it into comparison

Proper proud of our lot yesterday, and the fans who were brilliant throughout

Compare that to our last game against the Hammers at Upton Park when Redknapp was in charge, was like night and day.
We went toe to toe with a premier league side yesterday when we didn’t lay a glove on them in the actual premier league!
I remember at the time berating Redknapp for sitting on his arse with his arms crossed just not looking bothered, compare that with monsieur Stephan yesterday who was highly animated and trying to make a difference from the side. He went up in my estimation of him yesterday.
