EFL re-organisation? 12:49 - Jul 1 with 1368 viewsozranger

There appears to finally be a move to separate the EFL from the FA. Whether it happens or not, that is still to be questioned. I also assume this is not the first time this has happened.

Can't really disagree with many of the comments in this.

Rather than abolishing parachute payments completely, how about parachute payments are re-badged (in the same sums) as solidarity payments to the EFL and distributed each season amongst the EFL clubs (say 50% split amongst Championship clubs, 30% amongst League 1 clubs and 20% amongst League 2 clubs, or something similar) rather than just going into the pockets of the 3 clubs relegated from the PL?

Part of the problem of that is that clubs relegated from the PL will still have players on PL salaries but now on Championship income. If you can't sell those players then you have a problem.

The parachute payments to those clubs was brought in to address that issue as the PFA refused their players (you know, the ones who contributed to the relegation of the club) to have relegation clauses in their contracts.

If relegation clauses could be introduced then there would be no need for parachute payments.

With gormless Gordon gone, maybe the PFA could move forward into the 21st century and understand how acceptable this would be. Their clients would still be earning a handsome salary even in the Championship.

The whole imbalance issue is simply about greed and that needs to stop.

The answer to that particular conundrum is fairly simple - the EFL clubs agree between them not to sign any player who refuses to have a relegation clause in their contract (which I guess needs to be done in conjunction with the agreement of a universal salary cap). There will be a lot of unemployed players if they refused to fall in line

Indeed but it'll take one club to break rank (to get a really good player before anyone else does) and it'll fall apart.

There's no camaraderie in football, it's dog-eat-dog.
