Get Back 22:08 - Dec 11 with 3132 viewsdmm

Just finished the third and last episode of the Beatles Get Back documentary having watched it over three evenings. It's a long and winding road - about 7 hours in total - but always fascinating, intimate, funny and yes, deeply nostalgic. I kind of feel like I've fallen in love with them all over again.

The production values are fantastic and it looks like it was filmed yesterday. If you've loved the fab four, you'll find it a great watch over Christmas.

If you like a good music documentary did you watch the Phil Lynott one which aired the other week? Was excellent and well worth a watch - I think it was on C5.

For me as a self confessed guitar freak It's like the book you cant put down.

I'm currently on part two.

Seeing George in the studio playing the Gibson Les Paul that I'd read years ago was given to him by Eric Clapton.
Watching and listening to the 'tension' between Paul McCartney and George Harrison whilst practising, I never knew that tension existed.
Paul McCartney's vocal range is superb, his attention to perfection and his driving force behind the band has so far surprised me somewhat.
Ringo is as mad as a hatter, he just turns up for work but a completely likeable bloke.
I'm loving seeing John Lennon at work at the piano and playing his Epiphone Casino, I've been to NYC five times and always made a point of visiting Strawberry Fields in Central Park for a reason, 'be-bop-a-Lula' John 'be-bop-a-Lula' RIP.

Those old Fender Amps (gorgeous just gorgeous).

Give peace a chance.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

It looked to me that George was fed with playing along with Paul and john without having as much input as them, and he had as many different ideas but wasn’t given the same respect as the 2 main songwriters.Paul looked like he was the only one interested in keeping the band together.Ringo probably didn’t have any ideas of branching out on his own and was happy to go along with anything to keep playing with his band mates.John looked like he couldn’t be bothered to do anything else but go through the motions.

I just finished watching that tonight. What a great musician he was in his day.Just a shame that addiction took another one before his time. But what a legacy to leave us.

I also finished the Beatles programmes today and I’m glad I stuck with it until the end.A very enjoyable few hours viewing, although it was a shame that there wasn’t more subtitles to go with the interaction between them all.Or I might be going mutton and couldn’t pick up what they were saying sometimes.

I've watched the Lynott doc last night. Very good. I'm going to watch it again on a bigger TV in a few days time as I couldn't read a lot of the captions. Brought back a lot of memories. Was slightly disappointed to hear Scott slightly dissing the 'Nightlife' album, I absolutely love it, it's really funky. As they said, Lizzy's sound morphed so many times from near Irish folk to virtually heavy metal on their last efforts.

As for the fab four, is this only on the Disney channel?

I've only seen episode 1 but thought it was fascinating. Amazing that they only had 21 days to write and rehearse an albums worth of material. They would literally turn up in the morning and jam away an idea that they had created the evening before whilst trying to come up with lyrics on the spur of the moment. Incredible that the end result of it all was the Let It Be album. Even the final venue for the concert was not decided and discussions were taking place about UK or abroad and whether they needed to ferry all the fans to Northern Africa? These days it would take many months of planning and a huge logistical team of people ... different times.

As I said on the other thread, my mind was well and truly blown by this film. Can you believe these grown men - the most famous musicians in the world - referring to their recently deceased manager (who was only six years older than Lennon and Starr) as MISTER Epstein!

Just finished it, Lennon—McCartney? brilliant lyricist's excellent musicians and a bloody good laugh.
What a band they were, special mention for Billy Preston, unless I'm mistaken he loved being there with them and Jamming along during the daft moments as well as being a top of the range keyboard player during recording.
So glad I watched It, highly recommended.

I loved it but man it was too long, it really could've been like 3 hours. If I hear Get Back again it will be too soon.

There's so much mythos about the band, that seeing them as real people was just...hypnotising? They consumed a heroic amount of tea and toast

I loved the roadie who brought them all the tea and toast and had to deal with the police etc. If it was today he would have been nipping out to get a skinny latte or some such. Por bloke got shot dead by US police a few years later.

And the Apple receptionist who kept the police at bay with her "I don't know anything about it" routine.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

When I went to New York visiting strawberry fields was my number one to do, also went and stood near the doorway where he was shot, very poignant.

Your final sentence is a hell of a pay-off; like the end of "American Graffiti" Poor bloke indeed.
