This! I'm also grimly gladdened by the manager's unsmiling mien, pained tone and pointed words in his post-match interviews, here and on the Offish - we'd never have had anything like that from MW, who probably would have told us there was nothing in the game, Charlton have a very talented squad, and we now need to rest and recover and go again for Sunderland with his dial-a-cliche schtick. Those who've come out on this board and say managers will and should always protect their players and we shouldn't expect anything as 'old-fashioned' (another lovely Bealeism) as telling it as it is, respect for the fans, and calling out our failings, can do one. Go away and rethink your snowflake-flecked complicity with our fragility in the mirror, learn some old-fashioned values (or any values) of your own, and get with the programme! He sounds genuinely heartbroken to be out of the only cup we've ever won and is clearly hurting for the 3,000 admirable mugs who went. I like this manager a lot more already than I liked the last one, but he already wears the face of a man who's starting to realise it's going to be a big job to change the mentality and quality of this squad, strengthen its physical condition, and get us performing consistently for a whole game. All power to his (Stainrod's) elbow! [Post edited 10 Aug 2022 9:08]
