Not a disaster (we know a disaster, we've seen quite a few in recent years), but disappointing. There were good spells and some half chances, but I can only remember 2 saves by their keeper, and although it would have been spectacular it's hard to call Barbet's overhead kick a real chance.

In the opening period Derby disrupted us by pressing across the back three and the midfield. We did get into the game in the middle period, but the midfield always looked weak. Ball does his best, Willock had some good moments but too often was muscled off the ball and still seems short of full fitness, and Chair often got into promising positions, and again isn't physical enough, and the Derby defence always managed to restrict his influence. I thought there were numerous occasions when he should have taken on the full back, but his lack of a left foot forced him back inside where the defensive traffic was heavier.

We're missing Carroll. And it's worth remembering that we don't have Eze (OK we all remember well enough) but he had the strength to ride challenges and/or win free kicks. More gym work for Chair and Willock!

The full backs remain a weakness, but apart from the goal our back 3 looked solid.

As midweek the ref gave us nothing, including another obvious handball which should have been a penalty. But Rs aren't cute enough to realise that opposition players will go down under any slight contact so need to get their body position right so it's clearer to the ref that it's not a foul.
