20 MPH
at 17:25 29 Jan 2026

I'm saying this as a non driver, but there is also an argument about giving a certain amount of reasonable flexibility in the months immediately after these roads have been reduced to 20. e.g. 23 in a 20 mph zone - there's a line between public safety and affecting people's finances, livelihood etc.

No argument about the reasons for 20 mph, but like every policy it needs to be implemented in a sensible way.

23 in a 20 seems very harsh to me for points - what's the cut-off? 22? 21?

The more of this sort of thing I read on here the more thankful I am I don't even bother trying to drive in London.

Julien speaks
at 13:17 26 Jan 2026

The players not being fit enough seems to be one of the few opinions that the vast majority are agreed on. Kone was out on his feet by the time Rathbone hit that winner and couldn't find it in himself to move 2 feet to block the shot. That's not singling him out but it would have been a frustrating point at least at the end, rather then what it was.

But isn't Williams Nourry's friend as well as whatever his job title is? With all the various layers and roles I find it hard to imagine he'd walk or get pushed, so it's difficult to see something meaningful happening as far as lack of fitness.

But if our 'secret weapon', in Nourry speak, is to do things consistently part of that should be getting and staying fit, unless that's just too basic.

100%

Mbengue clearly at fault for his part and needs to learn fast from this - hopefully that is possible.

But yeah, game management, time management, lumping it back to them centrally on the halfway line, players sitting in the box giving space and time to put good shots on target. It was like a case study in what not to do in those situations.

Was absolutely numbing yesterday but the whole squad needs to learn from it and move on.

Would a newby be a booby ? Match thread

Might go 3421 and match the Disney darlings up?

Dunne, Cook, Edwards at the back
Mbengue right, Smyth left
Madsen and Hayden in the middle
Vale and Kolli behind Kone possibly

We've been playing really narrow anyway so might not be that much of a change

I'd love to do more things from passion, enthusiasm and obsession. It's finding the time, as for most people I think.

Am glad you've been able to carve out that niche, though you do go on about it really quite a lot - just some gentle feedback - please feel free to consider it downright naked jealousy, I'm fine with that.

On the actual football I don't agree that a professional foul or a 5 mins goalkeeper sit-down is cheating me as a paying supporter - would need to check the Ts & Cs on what I'm being promised of a Saturday afternoon before going that far. But if I get a class action lawsuit going I'll ping you a DM.

It's not a meta-analysis though is it? It's just an imaginary conversation with a football professional, which we are not.

I'm sure there would be clear things you or I wouldn't agree with Julien on at the minute - I don't like the goalkeeper sitting down trick and fair enough that is an example of something we seem to have adopted, though it's never a 10 min stoppage - not that that matters though it's still daft an unnecessary.

The sanity definition is accepted - 'normal boundaries' is my point on that. I'm not going to suggest what that looks like really - that would be the duck scenario.

Multiple truths I suppose.

e.g. I hadn't picked up from the stream how bad the pitch was, but if it was as bad as mentioned in the report then maybe my idea of trying to get it down and play through Madsen wasn't really workable?

I still think it was, but what do I know really? I often imagine, in situations where I feel strongly about style of play, selection etc, that if I were putting my point across to the manager in a pub he'd rip my argument to bits by bringing in things like player form, unknown lingering injuries, tactical considerations, things they'd worked on all week not working out, etc etc, all of that.

It doesn't make me, you, Clive or anyone else wrong about thinking that we are currently a hard watch, but there is always another side. The fact that we're not privy to it just gives us the luxury and freedom of being able to say it from our perspective. Which, as long as it's kept within normal boundaries of taste and sanity, is what supporters do.

The weather did look stinking - very well done to those who went.

Didn't we need to try to do adapt our play a bit more to the conditions though? The pitch looked better than ours these days and certainly well watered.

What has happened to trying to find a player in midfield, play through the thirds, all of that? Far far too many times you saw one of our CBs knocking it long into the channel for Bennie to scamper onto, or Kone to try to get it to stick. That now seems to be the plan - turn the opposition, build higher up.

I hate the fcuking about at the back fulcrum stuff too, but couldn't we use that game to remember the happy medium? I don't buy injuries as an excuse not to do that last night because our starting 11 looked perfectly competitive in terms of the opposition. And again I think we're in danger of forgetting how to play in the more balanced way we had shown at times earlier in the season.

Dembélé new boo boy?
at 09:08 21 Jan 2026

I thought he wasn't bad in the first half - looked a bit sharper and a couple of things just didn't come off. And that crossfield ball to Smyth was superb.

Second half he managed to be both anonymous and a liability, which was quite a trick.

He should be benched at best for a while after that.
