Five-star Saints whitewash wretched Rangers – Report
at 17:31 26 Feb 2026

The thing I noticed about the fifth goal was how our man actually pulled out of the challenge on the edge of the box allowing a free hit on goal. It rather summed up the cowardly abject display of the whole team.

Of course the parachute money plays a big part in this league but we do surrender far too often against these sides the moment we go two down. The sheer amount of tonkings we have been getting have, in the most part, been against richer clubs or at least bigger clubs. We do seem to have an inferiority complex embedded in the club. I feel as though I should already be preparing myself for 5-0 defeats to Wolves and Burnley next season at least in one of the two meetings with each side.

I look at Millwall and see a club with limited funds like us but I can't imagine them losing 7-1 or 5-0 against clubs with big money behind them. They don't lose a game or two heavily each season like us. We make it so easy for the opposition at times. Not only do we suffer embarrassing big defeats like on Tuesday and early cup exits but we also specialise in not beating teams in the relegation dogfight.

It just rolls on year after year, decade after decade and nobody seems capable or wants to change it. Our motto should be shit happens, we simply shrug our shoulders and carry on as before. We simply exist to make up the numbers as though we are an amateur club in a professional league. I am viewed as a fossil for pointing out this club is dying on it's feet going nowhere because we need funds to change it like other clubs have done with investment over time.

I notice Middlesbrough have now gone off the boil so no doubt they will get back on track when they visit us and without Madsen I would suggest we have no chance. There is no way he will be back fit that soon. Our season will now fizzle out defeated by an injury crisis probably of our own making.

Watching Austin and Mackie last night they put all the blame on the result on the players and not the manager. We all know we don't have the funds to bring in quality's when we face teams with parachute money we seem to surrender. Charlton are no better financially than us but at least they played with some pride at Southampton to earn a point after the first half tonking they took at the Valley against them earlier in the season. Charlton also won 3-0 at Ipswich.

In contrast we are torn apart by Ipswich at home and Saints could have scored more than five if they put their mind to it. Same happened last season with Burnley when we lost 5-0 at home. We seem to fight in one meeting and give up in the other meeting over two games. I guess Stephan has done well in that we have not been in any relegation danger this season despite three very bad Sheffield Wednesday style defeats. The trouble is we remind me of Coventry who managed to constantly stay up for decades in the top flight but once they dropped they haven't yet been back. It just feels inevitable we will go down at some point in the coming years as we simply don't improve.

There is a lot wrong with the playing side of the club with many unwanted records set of late. In a quarter of a century we have only won 8 away London derbies. Portsmouth won at our place last season and this month won at Charlton and Millwall so three away wins in London. Perhaps they can loan us Mousinho for future away derbies to teach QPR managers how to win away in London.

I've not started a match thread before, but I thought f*ck it, why not? v Saints
at 22:46 24 Feb 2026

That was shockingly bad. The goals we let in were appalling and that is the players responsibility. They didn't play for the badge and looked guuless and afraid of Southampton as if we were not fit to be on the same pitch. Charlton got a point there on Saturday. Another hammering like Coventry and Ipswich. Is that 6 defeats to the Saints in the last six meetings?

At what point will someone get to grips with this propensity to concede either side of half time? One Saints player free in the 6 yard area to head in a corner while our dummies stand there effectively ending the contest in the first half. Five down after 70 minutes and fortunate Southampton eased up or it could have been worse than Coventry. We just seem to give up and throw in the towel which suggests this season will now fizzle out without Madsen to hold it together.

Pompey winning 3-1 away to both Charlton and Millwall in 6 days showing us how to win away in London. We will have to be careful we don't lose at home to them again as it seems they brought in some useful signings in January.

Was this the second time that Wrexham came from 3-2 down to win 5-3 this season? I seem to recall they did the same to Sheffield Utd. Five different scorers for them today. They seem to take their chances which will be a good trait to have in the run in.

Good win for us today but can we beat the Saints who seem to beat us all the time these days no matter how ordinary they might be?

How many times did the commentators mention Blackburn beating us? It had reached a count of four when I gave up watching...

To be fair to us the first two Pompey goals at Charlton were fortunate. The keeper let the first one go straight through him, the sort of mistake he wouldn't do against us, and the second goal came from a dodgy penalty award which we would not have been given for a similar incident.

I see the commentators of the Qarabag v Newcastle game managed to wangle in a mention of our nightmare defeat to Blackburn at the weekend as if it had any relevance to the Champions League...

QPR hand O’Neill perfect start as Blackburn boss – Report
at 19:50 16 Feb 2026

We should remember that Blackburn have won more away games than we have. Earlier in the season they had won five away by mid November but it was their home form that was the problem.

We have been poor for years dictating the play which is probably why we have struggled at home in previous seasons from not being able to take the game to the away side. We did better away from sitting back and taking the few chances we got hence we could win 2-1 away at Burnley and Leicester but we did lose the home fixtures. This is the first season for years we look better at home but we still struggle with possession and controlling games.

It has been unlucky for us that Norwich and Blackburn changed their manager's just before we played them so we lost both 3-1. We have been bad since Christmas and so too have Coventry. This often happens where teams have a good first half to the season and a poor second half and then you have the reverse with Norwich and Sheffield Utd doing much better in the second half of the campaign.

Why do we keep conceding immediately after half time??
at 21:53 14 Feb 2026

It does my head in but it is more a home game defect or at least it seems that way. Today we concede in the 50th minute effectively ending the contest when any other losing side would come out all guns blazing. Coventry took the lead in the 53rd minute with one of only two efforts on target and Wrexham equalised in the 54th minute.

Our manager must really inspire the lads at the interval or maybe some of the players have been betting against us like on the time of Wrexham/ Coventry's first goal. If we don't concede early in the second half, we are not averse to conceding just before half time instead! I guess we are good at something after all...

at 18:00 14 Feb 2026

Only a matter of time before normal service is resumed with Sheffield Utd and Norwich going above us. It never ceases to amaze me how often we concede around 50-55 minutes at home. Whatever is said to these misfits at half time doesn't seem to register.

What is the point boring people to death drawing 0-0 away only to follow up losing at home to both Wrexham and Blackburn conceding three goals in each game? We are excelling once again in not being capable of beating teams fighting relegation and having half the team crocked.

Really am weary of this never ending season after season going nowhere tale of woe that regurgitates itself in slightly different forms. We are like a flu virus that changes slightly each winter but the end result of us feeling sick never goes away.

Leicester v Southampton
at 10:33 12 Feb 2026

It is the way of things that smaller clubs rise and then crash and in today's money dominated game they can't keep up with the big clubs.

We started the 70's in division 2, nearly won the first division and ended the decade back in the second division.

What annoys me is seeing other small clubs winning the FA Cup like Wimbledon, Wigan, Portsmouth and Leicester for example not forgetting Luton and Birmingham winning the League Cup. It still rankles with me today that second division Southampton won the FA Cup when we had our best ever team in 76.

Anyway this has nothing to do with the thread title.

Thanks for doing this research at least it proves I am not getting senile yet as it confirms my worst suspicions that we are spineless in away London derbies.

I think the away win at Chelsea was the only away derby success in three Premier League seasons which included 6-0 and 6-1 derby hidings when we allegedly had better players than we have now.

The problem for us doing badly at Brentford and Fulham was that Brentford were on the rise and Fulham kept going up and down with parachute payments while we were in decline.

It is difficult to fathom why we have not managed a win at Charlton in the last 7 attempts as they have been stuck in the mud rather like us. Didn't they knock us out of the League cup as a league 1 side in a penalty shoot out following on from us losing there in the season they were relegated from the Championship? I try to forget about nightmares like this so memory a bit sketchy.

Perhaps it is just as well we are not in the Premiership. Fourteen derbies would be enough to relegate us as we won't pick up many points in those fixtures.

To be fair to Nathan Jones he thought the ref showed common sense not sending Vale off as there was no intent.

I would be interested to see how many away London derbies we have won since 2000. They say life is short and 19 years without an away win at Charlton is a significant proportion of my life. We have an excuse struggling at established Premiership London clubs like Arsenal and those who have risen like Palace, Brentford and Fulham but to not win at Charlton who have struggled is not a good look. You realise how quickly life passes when you analyse the last time your team won at a certain ground...

Don't be Addicks - Charlton Athletic vs QPR Match Thread
at 23:05 6 Feb 2026

I have lost count but that must be no wins in our last seven visits to the Valley. We are poor at winning away in London derbies so I guess a small mercy we didn't lose.

In truth we should have taken one of those stoppage time chances to win the game. We can say at least Dykes didn't score against us but he stopped us winning with the goal line clearance.

I don't think Coventry and Leicester fans particularly like each other so he may have liked the result.

While I was agitated that once again we conceded soon after half time from one of only two on target efforts from Coventry, I am pleased with the way we played and that we didn't hand them their first away win in 7 league away games so no generous charity donations from us.

8 away wins is damn impressive for a team that lost at Oxford. It is a big turnaround since the Rams lost 4-0 to us when Eustace arrived.

You are right but Coventry haven't won any of their last 6 away games. Time for our benevolent charity to help them out. Norwich only 7 points behind us now so my Canary friend's prediction they will finish above us looks on.

Marti is a good manager for keeping a team up but I don't think he is the right man to get a team promoted like Leicester who would expect to be fighting for promotion. Be interesting to see where he goes next.

The key words here are we continue to bob around in roughly the same position.

The thing is we have been fairly static for 10 years like s Monopoly piece selected and going to jail in the first move. If we keep finishing around the same position it gives the impression we lack ambition and have made zero progress. We exist but just appear to be making up the numbers.

While we have been loitering around the lower half of the table we have seen Wrexham go above us from non league, Luton went from non league to the Premiership, admittedly they have now gone back down to league 1, Ipswich sailed by us to the Premiership and are still above us despite relegation, Sunderland look like they are staying in the Premiership, Coventry are in a great place to join Sunderland next season and now Derby are above us.

I accept some clubs like Portsmouth and Oxford could return to league 1 with Sheffield Wednesday so we have done OK in terms of avoiding the drop. However, while we continue to finish around the bottom half that does not suggest we are moving upwards out of the rut. Sure, we could still finish in the top half but not if we are unfit as appears to be the case.

I was watching Villa winning at Newcastle today and thinking how fit they look. They were playing in Turkey on Thursday and won. Despite all the travelling and having to then travel to Newcastle didn't seem to affect them. Yet I read on here our boys are out on their feet at home to Wrexham but we only went to Oxford on Tuesday not Turkey.

If we had done our research we would know Wrexham score quite often in stoppage time. How is it we can muster the dark arts of the game for 100 minutes at Stoke but can't do it for 4 minutes yesterday to see the game out? We should know Wrexham finish their games strongly which they regularly demonstrated in their rise from non league. If we keep fielding unfit players we cannot move forward as a club. Our club needs a major shake up if it is ever to wake up.

If I was a Wrexham fan I would be happy about the direction of the club and the never give up approach and winning mentality of their team so fair play to them. Yesterday's finish was another depressing low for me as an R.

Just back
at 18:33 24 Jan 2026

If you are not fit then the team will look tired the longer the game goes on for. If the manager and players know they are going to wilt then it is imperative we take the opportunities in the first half. We should have been three up at half time but a tired team will start sitting back as the game wears on when only leading by a goal. If we had done our homework we would have known Wrexham score a number of stoppage time goals so we should have played more sensibly in the dying embers.

The frustration I have with us is that when the opponents go down to 10 men we can't score against them even when we have an hour still to play. All we had to do was see out 5 minutes but we ship two just 60 seconds apart. We can make excuses about tiredness but why do other clubs cope better? Wrexham won all four games between Christmas and the New Year. Today Middlesbrough blew Preston away 4-0, this after winning at West Brom and Stoke in the past week. Why are they not tired and sitting back at home like us? We have mentally weak players who are unfit and it never changes over the seasons. Until someone at the club shakes us out of this apathy and changes the dynamics we will still be in this same place in twenty years time.

Perhaps people have forgotten past nightmares but we have been here before. The famous City game 2-1 up on 90 minutes only to lose after 95 minutes. Or how about Hull? One up after 90 minutes only to lose two goals in stoppage time. The only difference today is that we were at home.
