 | Forum Reply | So player of the season? at 19:47 22 Mar 2025
Because of consistency of appearance and performance, has to be either Nardi or Dunne. I'd go with Dunne...there's some stat out there that he has more goal attempts than any other Rs player this season. But it's close as Nardi has had a superb debut season with some amazing saves but it's true does not dominate when crosses come in. Smyth has been great and always makes team more solid and therefore better when he plays. But form bit up and down. Nowhere near POTY. |

I like the long throws by Smyth. Is it glorious Dave Sexton 75/6 total football? No. But it's effective and the tactic allowed for the room to create the 2nd goal. After, the game Marti said Smyth was taken off early because of an ankle injury. Didn't look hurt though! Just surmising here, but maybe Nourry/Cifuentes tension partially the result of the youthful CEO loaning Yang in deal with promises to play him. Also think we were better for Chair ruled out by injury. Meant we went back to basics and Clive Dunn 'they don't like it up 'em' attitude. Last note: as Clive said, Farke told reporters after game he got his team selection wrong. If I understood him, the German thinks he should have been more solid and defensive in midfield but instead went for attacking approach to blow us away. And Leeds paid for that lack of respect. Idealism versus Pragmatism again, the Marti conundrum visited on the opposing team. |

Oops...you were talking about Lloyd not Frey. Apologies! Bt also like Lloyd who is not just chaos merchant! |

Agree to disagree. Frey is awkward but very effective and scores goals. And has skill. You can't judge a book...! I get he is not a clinical finisher, but there are very few of those around. And he DOES press which a lot of times is getting somewhat near defenders to up pressure from the front, rather than being uber-athletic whippet Greyhound. |

This from BBC Sport... With 13 league games to play, Burnley are only one clean sheet off matching the Championship record of 25 in a season, set by QPR in the 2010-11 campaign |

Good for him, but would never have him back at Rangers. Phoned in a high number of games for us, basically guilty of wage theft. The polar opposite of Dom Ball. |

Being better than Lyndon Dykes IS something special for QPR. Works hard and scores goals. |

The Welsh have a word for it: 'hywl'...meaning fighting spirit or according to AI on Web 'a stirring sensation, fervour, emotion, motivation and enthusiasm'. Yes, tactics important but will to dig in, to fight even more important. And much improved set pieces...first two goals today. |

'Dark arts', 'getting stuck in', 'standing up and being counted'...smart, tough Championship-in-the-rain football from Rangers. Two notable being nasty moments...Smyth chasing down and pushing keeper Bachmann in 11th minute..and then Frey taking yellow to disupt dangerous Watford attack. Michi F at moment looking upgrade on Scotstralian Dykes...and he scores! |

Still a few hours to go to New Year here in LA. And I have to get up at 4:30 am to watch Watford game on a stream. (I know, First World problem compared to train/tube travel around blighted UK). But...We Are QPR. Wherever we may be. However the chips may fall (usually badly). Magnificent piece, Clive. Happy New Year To All. |

From the stream, it looked like Marti got booked after a cynical foul by one of their players to stop a breakaway that was right opposite the dugout. This was shortly after Field was rightly booked for a similar offense. Marti would have been pointing out rampant inconsistency to legendary ref Ward. Shows pressure he is feeling though as usually pretty controlled on sideline. |

Ainsworth set the floor for these club interviews, Critchley nearly as bad. Warburton guarded, cautious and reliant on cliches but honest and 'with respect' respectful. Cifuentes also guarded but also, to my ear, not cliche-ridden, not full of BS and, as Clive rightly says, reveals far more in post-match sessions with journalists. Those with long memories (me!) will remember how terrible Alan Mullery was at media interviews. Gerry Francis never fluent but always honest enough and always with a sense of humour. |

Watched on CBS Sports stream in US and solo Brit commentator they had working the game was rightly v complimentary about Rangers performance. Even called Varane a 'monster' at one point. Four things struck me from afar: 1. Team moved the ball far more quickly than most games this season, especially first half, with a number of rapid one-twos creating space. Looks like something they had worked on. Got bogged down 2nd half when Mackems went into defensive shell. 2. Had the spectacle of Sunderland blatantly time wasting from sending off for rest of the game. Their keeper Moore booked on 70 minutes but did not seem to affect his speed of movement for the rest of the time out there. (Was he warned again by ref? Kind of thing you can't pick up streaming.) 3.Field looked far more comfortable at CB than in any of his other fill-in games at the back. 4. We got after them in midfield and pressed their defenders. They did not like it up 'em! Heartening to see. |
