Saints have a home draw in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Well its a premier side at home, but not one of the big draws as Saints were drawn at home to Blackpool in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Given Ian Holloway's penchant for playing weakened sides in certain games with his focus being on Premier survival its a tie that Saints should not fear, indeed one they should relish with the chance to register an upset.

The last time Saints met Blackpool in this competition was back in 1976 when in the fourth round they dispatched them 3-1 with 2 goals from Mick Channon and one by Bobby Stokes seeing of the Lancashire side in front of 21,553 back in the days when the cup attracted bigger crowds than league fixtures and not vice versa as it is today.

Its unlikely that that attendance figure will be beaten this season, but if the Club learn the lessons of closing stands etc as they did against both Shrewsbury and Cheltenham then it could still be a decent figure and one to match last seasons 3rd round against Luton when 18,786 turned up.
