Latest tRAMsfer news: Confirmation Clough Targeting Big Name!
Latest tRAMsfer news: Confirmation Clough Targeting Big Name!
Saturday, 28th May 2011 14:03 by Daniel J Sewart

Rams fans are sitting back waiting for news the Rams have landed a ‘name’ player or for that matter – any player! News today shows once again DCFC is aiming high just as they promised their fans.

I apologise if fans were excited by the title or introduction to this article and hoping that things were finally on the move at DCFC. Instead in reality I injected so much sarcasm into them, if they were an actual chasm it would be overflowing with sar (get it? Sar-chasm….oh.....never mind).

With hopes of promised ‘proven’ players being added to the Rams squad instead former Derby player and now manager of Burton Albion has revealed Nigel had returned to the Brewers honey pot.

Speaking to the DET Paul Peschisolido admitted the Rams had submitted a bid for his big name (in Burton) 24 year old goalkeeper Adam Legzdins, who joined Burton from Crewe and was named the Brewers player of the season recently.

Peschi is hoping to keep the player but doesn’t seem to rate his chance of doing so:

"When a massive club like Derby come calling for one of your players, it is difficult not to let them go if they are interested.”

"But we are running a business, we have a value for Adam and until that valuation is met, he remains our player. He has a year left to run on his contract and he is not someone we want to lose.”

"There have been a few other snippets of interest in Adam but nothing as concrete as Derby's. We'd like him to stay as he was our most consistent performer this season and you never want to lose your best players.”

"I am in contact with his agent to see if we can sort something out."

I don't know about you but as good as this guy may be if we are looking for a number 2 (assuming that Bywater is moved on), then surely there would be someone better suited or even 'proven' playing at a higher level who would not cost more than the Rams have scraped together from the club swear jar.

It is also interesting that even when bidding for a player at Burton, the Rams seemingly have made an offer that is once again too low.

You start to wonder when the Rams will stop behaving like tourists bartering at a bazaar and instead communicate sufficiently with clubs before making a firm bid knowing what they will need to offer to land their targets.

Maguire Coming!? – Vaughan Not!

In other transfer news Aberdeen number one Craig Brown has spoken to the media in relation to Chris Maguire’s possible transfer to the Rams:

"It looks as though he'll go to Derby, It's not been confirmed, obviously, because he's away with the national team.”

"But I'm sure that when he comes back, a medical will be undertaken. He'll have no bother passing that, I'm sure, and the transfer will go through. I think the compensation comes to just under £400,000. That's to be confirmed."

If the deal relies on the Rams paying the above amount in compensation then fully expect Derby to offer £399,999 only for another Championship club to swoop in and land the player with a pound they found while cleaning out an armchair.

In relation to teams swooping on Rams targets. James Vaughan has signed for Norwich from Everton. Apparently they landed the talented striker by paying money for him and even more bizarrely the amount that his club wanted for him.

Crazy business this football!

Originally a little surprised at this one, especially with Ross Atkins potential. However, Ross could possibly benefit from gaining some first team experience which Legzdins has got and instead, as I have read elsewhere, letting Ross go in a part-exchange deal, I think derby would be better letting him go on a season's loan to Burton, if Burton want him of course, they may prefer to take Saul Deeney back who days at Derby may become numbered if a good No 2 to Frank Fielding is signed. As far as big name signings go I wonder what this forum would
have commented all those years ago when Clough senior made his big transfers
bringing unknown players in from the likes of Hartlepool, Tranmere Rovers, Bradford Park Avenue and Worcester City?
On another matter Ben Robinson, the Burton Chairman, has commented that he wanted the Lagzdins deal done quietly and surprised it has got into the press.
Is this another Derby fault ? Trying to keep their fans happy by letting them know they are active in the Transfer market, but then upsetting the fans if the move does not come to fruition while alerting others clubs of a players availabilty eg Conor Salmon.
