Saints Hopeful Of New Defender For Saturday
Saints Hopeful Of New Defender For Saturday

Saints look set to have at least one new face in the line up for Saturday.

As has been rumoured on message boards for the past two weeks and more Saints look set to bring in a new central defender this week, it appears that first choice is Tunisian international Ammar Jemal, but it seems that this deal might be held up and even scuppered by work perrmit problems.

If that is the case then Saints are also in talks with QPR in an attempt to offload Jason Puncheon to them, the London club are keen to send Kaspar Gorkss as well as cash in the opposite direction and it could be that this deal starts to appeal to Saints more as the season approaches and time starts to run out.

With regard to time, unless a deal is done pretty quickly it will leave whichever player coming in little time to integrate with his teammates, with a defender its a lot harder just to step into a team cold, there is an element of getting an understanding with your goalkeeper and fellow defenders, so the new man knows exactly what is role is in the side and just what systems we use whilst defending set pieces etc as well as in open play, with that in mind it could well be a risk to plunge a player straight in, with that in mind Saints need to get at least a couple of days training under his belt if they are to risk playing him against Leeds.

Personally I think Seabourne will start alongside Fonte against Leeds on Saturday.
Simply because of the fact they have played together for most of the pre-season games. I think he will only lose his place if we sign another centre back.

Gorkss is a good centre back and after the defence let in another set piece at Yeovil on Saturday, one of our problems from last season is still around as is lack of pace in defence. I also feel we need a quality striker if we are to be a force in the Championship.
