Big Decision On Lallana
Big Decision On Lallana

Adam Lallana was surprisingly missing at Derby but will he be risked against the Hammers.

Most Saints fans assumed that Adam lallana would be the first name on the team sheet for the trip to Pride Park, but they didnt know that he had picked up a foot injury in training and was therefore ruled out, but the big question they will all be asking is, Will he be fit to play any part in the West Ham Game ?

Last season Lallana was certainly a lucky talisman in the fact that when he was missing Saints usually struggled, although by the tail end of the season they had learned to cope with his loss a little more, a surprising fact is just how many matches he did miss last term, he started only 30 of the 46 coming on as sub in a further 5.

Perhaps a place on the bench is the best we can hope for him against West Ham, although this is certainly a big big game and possibly the biggest Saints will play at home all season in more ways than one, promotion isnt won or lost for that matter in one game and if Adam Lallana isnt 100% fit then maybe it would be better to rest him rather than risk agrevating the injury.

Only Lallana and the Saints medical team at this moment in time know whether he is ready to play any part in tonights game and indeed Reading on Saturday and beyond and for tactical reasons they will be keeping quiet.

Its fair to say though that even if he is only named on the bench it will be heartening for Saints fans and give them a boost.

But injuries are part of the game and Saints should have a big enough squad to be able to cope, of course it will be a big blow, but hopefull whether he plays or not, tonight will be one of those magical St Mary's nights where the crowd drive the team through a tough game.

If he's carrying a knock, is it really worth starting him? There's plenty of games to go! NA being a former physio & the staff we have at the club, I trust their judgement.

We need our best XI out there tonight. We missed Lallana on Saturday and he'll be a massive boost to the team if he can play, even if it's just for 60 minutes.

Our best XI only includes him if he's fit though. Also we need to look long term, this is only 1 game even though it's one we'd all love to win. No point risking him for 60 if he ends up worsening a knock and we lose him for a month

Yeah I accept losing Lallana for longer would be a worse situation. My only concern is that without him we lose our width. On Saturday up until de Ridder came on we didn't really get many promising crosses in. Maybe it's de Ridder's time to prove himself. I didn't witness the game he started in, but every time I've seen him come on as a sub he's been a real threat with his pace. I think his final distribution is the biggest problem. He reads the game well and gets into threatening positions.
